Why does Goku sucks so much at making a plan?

He didn't said a word to Gohan about what he intended, he was the whole time smug of knowing he had a way to defeat Cell, he gave Cell a senzu and had Gohan get a terrible beating. And it has to be Piccolo the one that points out how flawed and stupis his whole plan was.

He does the same by letting Goten and Trunks handle the things, instead of him ending the things right there and saving a lot of trouble.

Vegeta can be a lot of things but when he is planning something at least it works(for example his idea to defeat Kid Buu).

Whis was right about Goku, the man is over confident and because of that, everyone suffers.
