Big name shows are being milked for all they're worth a lot more than in years past. CGI is becoming far too common and it's always jarring when it's overlaid onto traditional animation, finally studios need to stop with the twelve episodes a season bullshit.

No it's just stayed virtually at the same level of utterly middling quality and blatantly just going hard after the Japanese neets all but exclusively for the past few years. Same casts, same producers, same staff, same shitty nonsensical storylines and shitty characters that go virtually nowhere, just a whole blend of mass produced schlock. As some have said in the thread though /a/ and the community at large has definitely gotten worse. Nobody seems to give a shit anymore about anything, it's just how can I use this to bait and rile people up over nothing and how can I keep that going as long as possible using the current seasonal anime or ones that are hyped up on social media. That seems to be the extent of the communities interest in anime at large.

It's been astonishingly fucking bad for a few years now going back to at least mid 2014. Literally only an expansion into Greater Asian markets and the sheer spending power of the all coveted otaku demographic as well as the newfound equally coveted fujoshi or rotten girl demographic has allowed it to sustain itself. Were it not for Your Name and some other classic franchises getting some films I'd almost swear Japan itself has started to tune anime out as a thing and thinks of it as a great personal shame, embarrassment and a bad representation for the nation worldwide.

There's a reason the Japanese Olympic Committee consolidated it's mascot licenses and tie-ups with any sort of popular culture early and anything to do with anime is all family friendly multi-national stuff and kept at a limit. They'll almost certainly do all they can to hide the existence of late night anime and it's otaku culture in 2020 too depending on how that industry even looks by that point.

Really it's almost entirely the presence of late night TV anime that is making the whole thing look increasingly like shit. There's more of it this decade than ever before in it's history, it's almost all limited to 12 episode chunks regardless of what is clearly necessary to make the story arcs functional for TV and it's just hard not to notice that the whole apparatus has been stretched to it's absolute current limits.

The only thing really surprising about this whole turn given the obvious current mass production approach of the industry is just how much the Western community that sees a fraction of the benefits tolerates obviously bad television. Like at least Japanese people that buy the R2 for the BD for trash anime adaptation 101 by A-1 or whoever get the benefits that have event tickets to meet the actual people that really made the source for the bad adaptation or art books, CD's and stuff that are also by the source people. R1 viewers don't get shit.

Anime today is going two ways. 1. It's copying other shows who did what they want to do better 20 years ago and 2. it's making original ideas but it's executing it like shit. There are very few anime coming out that actually know how to execute storylines, character developments and direction. The problem also is that IF an anime does all that correctly, no one watches it so there's no point in actually trying.

I'm not sure, I still maintain that it's been always kind of shit, but at least it was my kind of shit, nowadays I feel disconnected from most of the new things, all the social activism, politics, memes, terms/buzzwords, humor, references, sites, programs, videos. I don't really seem like being into any of it, maybe I'm just getting old for this, but it's still pretty much the only thing I got and seeing it slip through my fingers is like seeing myself becoming dead from remote 3rd person perspective, but I might be only one of few having these sentiments as a showcase of how much of a failed person I am. I just want to go to the time I could enjoy simple things instead of seeing how awful they actually are.
