what i want to know is how they approach the story with this spin off, we can speculate as much as we want but i need to know 2 things about this spin off

1. is "yamcha" in this spin off aim to be the strongest warrior? at least on par or even more than goku?

2. "yamcha" in this spin off just want to survive and actually a "key" character for every dbz arc, so he will not just a side character but also an important one (like when goku fight freeza, yamcha also there fighting together with goku)

this is quite important because if the author think of step 1 then "yamcha" could just play it dirty by taking advantage of the story knowledge (kill cell in larva, destroy android lab, etc)

but if the author doing step 2 making the "yamcha" is sort of good guy overall, he need to think how to make yamcha matter and strong while at the same time not changing the dbz history

It's fuck all to do with the base potential of a fighter. Old Kai outright says it's a buff that turns a cat into a lion. It's not that you have to have massive potential to get the buff but that Gohan being a post Z sword SSJ2 was enough of a base for his buffed self to surpass Buu.

It'd be enough for Yamcha to get the buff and surpass Frieza and the Androids. He wouldn't be a match for Dabura due to him being SSJ2 anyway.

It was never a potential unlock. That's just the shitty english dub that also implied Instant Transmission being light speed and Special Beam Cannon being light speed as well.

Read a proper translation and you'll see that Old Kai doesn't unlock potential. He just buffs fighters with a stupidly long ritual that makes them nigh untouchable on a 1 vs 1 basis.
