The ending was not really well-resolved or paced. It tried to be typical campy Shinkai but with a happy twist and it fell flat. I genuinely felt a Shinkai end would have worked here. It wouldn't be to my taste, but it'd have formed a more coherent narrative. Alternatively, ending the movie much earlier could have worked too because the buildup dragged for far too long and warranted a more explicit closure.

A 10/10 movie up until the ending where it became a 8/10. It just fell flat on its face. The ending should have been longer and Shinkai should have shown us some parts of their life after they met each other. Like marriage, going on dates, having kids, taking kids to school etc. whatever, just showing us glimpses of their life after they met on the stairs.
