Apart from the keikakus a Light and Lelouch aren't really that similar
Light doesn't care about anyone other than himself and only feels regret during his first kills
Lelouch's main motivation is protecting the people he cares about and the fact that if he stops after killing so many people it would mean he killled people for nothing
He may be edgy at times but half of the time it is because he needs everyone to think he is edgy, and his revenge subplot is nothing compared to the huge amount of times he goes "muh Nunnally"
Also pretty much all of the times he starts saying how he needs to embrace carnage it sounds like he is trying to convince himself

Lelouch is based on Char, but I've always liked Lelouch more because of his fabulousness. Char is usually pretty composed unless he's in the robot. Haven't seen the origin yet though.
