Forget that shit, part 1 and 2 are still the reigning champs for consistently being interesting as well as having great climaxes. From an animeonly standpoint, at least.

Part 3 was mostly meh with some neat stuff sprinkled in, and the current part is almost entirely meh with one or two neat moments up to now.

DiU fags have no friends so they relive their school years through the part 4 crew. It's comfy at best, but not the best.

Bites the Dust isn't as epic a showdown as DIO's World, and it would honestly be shit if it tried to be. It's a far more grounded and intimate fight than Jotaro vs. DIO for the purpose of complementing the theme of the whole part. The DIO fight is hype, but it is built on a mountain of plot conveniences and Deus ex Machina. The Kira fight is a lot more tactical and focuses on using more simplistic abilities to their greatest potential, which is why a lot of people like it and DiU as a whole. Part 5 is probably my second or third favorite, and like you, Giorno is definitely a big reason that holds it back. Giorno does have a personality, it's just that Araki never gives the character the chance to show it off. Giorno is used almost entirely for purely pragmatic purposes. If he isn't there to solve a problem he gets no dialogue and no panel time. To this day he is the only Jojo that I can't imagine what like in their free time. Giorno gets treated like a plot device more than any other character, barring Weather Report, and it's a damn shame, because I think he does have some interesting aspects about him if only they were genuinely delved into.

I enjoy David's adaptation, but somehow it doesn't deliver tension as well as the manga. Bite the Dust was nerve-wrecking when I first read it. Same for DIO's World, those pages when Dio's power is finally revealed against Kakyoin are some of the best manga pages I've ever read, the hype was unparalleled.

Diavolo's premise is fantastic. I have no issues with that. The problem is him personally speaking. We know next to nothing about Diavolo as a guy. It felt like Araki got so wrapped up in Diavolo keeping himself a secret from everyone else that he kept it a secret from the audience as well. Why did Diavolo have a kid in the first place? What specific series of events created Doppio? How exactly did he meet Enya? Why was his first instinct to create a mafia gang once he got his stand? Why was he so paranoid? What was his endgame in life before finding out the arrow could potentially power him up so that he could rule the world? The list goes on. Diavolo had the potential to be one of the most backstory and lore heavy villains in the series, but much like Giorno, Araki never capitalizes on the majority of Diavolo's more interesting aspects.

My problem with it being a mystery is that it doesn't feel necessary. imo a mystery should pay off in the end, but most of Diavolo's shit remains extremely vague to this day. It all feels way more shallow than it ought to be. I can come up with a million reasons for why Diavolo did the kinds of things he did, but without any confirmation or hard evidence it all just ends up as speculation which creates a real disconnect with the character for me. I like a good mystery as I'm reading a story, but if it's still a mystery after everything is resolved, I feel like I just got blue balled for half the series.

My favorite parts are 1 and 7. 4 and 5 are my least favorite parts. I like continuity. Parts 4 and 5 have NO effect on the plot afterwards. I consider them subplots. The subplots are pretty good, 4 being MUCH better than 5, but other than that, they are pretty shit.
