Yes, but the tone of episode 6 was extremely different from episodes 7 and 9. Where episode 6 was hazy, stylized, and very ambiguous, like something out of a dream, 7 and 9 were more concrete and realistic, and dare I say it, empty, giving the creator a nice blank canvas on which to paint clear and interpretable symbols.

Episode 6 is less conceptual, and more experiential. The actual world of memories they go into is hazy, awash with possibilities.

7 and 9 were more straightforward, in both visual execution and in what themes they wanted to evoke in you.

I think this corresponds with a change in writers and how they see the world. I really want to avoid talking about Jung, but he had a lot to say about how people think and perceive things.

Not saying I'm not loving what they're doing now, or that I'm not hoping that the director proves me wrong as hell in the upcoming episodes, but I really miss the hazy, undefined nature of the first half of Flip Flappers and what I believe Yunoko brought to the table.

It's still not even in my bottom 99% of anime this season.

Also, I think they used calcium tungstate or lanthanum phosphate and barium aluminate in their lights, to give them that nice dreamy blueish glow, but that's just an assumption since those are the most common phosphor coatings used in industrial applications in Japan.

This show has everything. An actual well done spoopy episode. A heartwarming episode that deals with alzheimers. Episodes dealing with identity and trauma. Ep9 was similarly obvious in the broad strokes of what it was trying to achieve by presenting Yayaka's story and expressing the conflict, frustration and rage she feels at her situation, but other stuff like the nature of the PI they were in is very ambiguous in a way which 6's PI was not. Theories on which relationship(s) it was based on have included Yayaka/Cocona, Yayaka/KKK, Cocona/Papika, the twins, or any combination of the above.

One of the things I love to see in a series is when it throws its characters in to a new environment for an extended period. This is one of the things that made Gurren Legann great because that series did it constantly. The penultimate episodes of AKB0048 and the final arc of Nanoha where she went from standard elementary school magical girl to operating from a sci-fi intergalactic battleship are other good examples.

These sort of shakeups usually lead to the most interesting part of a series and seem more likely to lead to a satisfying ending, so losing the FlipFlap base this soon is a great sign.

What will replace it though? They will defintiely spend some time at the KKK base, either as captives or invaders, they might have to escape in to the wilds or (best case scenario) get chased by Nyunyu et al through multiple PIs over the course of one or two episodes.

The idea of being cut loose from reality and living in PI for an extended period of subjective time is fascinating to me.

What's the relationship of "the three amorphous childs" and the PIs? Why were the KKK reluctant to use blue haired girl and used Yayaka as a replacement?

At first I was thinking that the PI's are alI related to amorphous childs, but we had an iroha and Bu PI so I dunno. Maybe only amorphous childs have the power to alter PIs and affect the real world, which is why Yayaka says the crystal will always be around Cocona/Papika in episode 9.

I just watched episode 8 after delaying it for a while and i am confused at how there was any uncertainty about what was the PI of that world. It was clearly the world of the relation between Hidaka and his creations (more specifically Bu-chan). The change into the real world is bu-chan breaking at the end of the episode, Sayuri has nothing to do with it, she only offers to make tea for him in the end because she sees that even if he is a hoarder, those things, or maybe just bu-chan, are important to him and he cares for them (alluded by pops wanting to protect the city). How was there any confusion before?

At which point they also would have realised that their base's location had been compromised since Cocopaps left from the Thomasson.

So reason one for leaving the tracker in Coconut's arm is because the KKK would wipe their base out as soon as it was deactivated. Reason two is they need Cocona and Papika to get combat experience quickly and know that the Cult would not harm them while they are still useful for finding shards, thus the opposition in PI provides a motivating and realistic yet relatively low-risk training environment.

For this plan to work it's necessary for FF to give up some shards to the cult, otherwise the girls aren't useful to the cult and the FF base gets wiped out before they are ready. Since the girls started flipflapping the shards have been split 50-50 between the factions so that has worked out ok.
