I watched Bleach and Hikaru no Go back when I was more tolerant of long-running shounen anime. Looking back, I don't think they were that good. I disliked Paradise Kiss right from the start, but finished it anyway. I've just never had much sympathy for those "looking for a purpose in life" type of people.

...what? It's more like it had a lot of Japanese culture jokes that were just stupid and unfunny. There's a minute long scene where Konata mimics some shampoo commercial that aired in Japan and there's no joke to it just the reference. It has nothing to do with being an "anime pro", the show just has a lot of jokes that make no sense to non-Japanese people meaning there's little value you in it for foreigners.
