As bad as every other animation-to-live action adaptation.

One of the best things about Gintama is the strength of it's main voice cast, how can they expect this to succeed?

Also the anime has more than enough episodes to be able to do a serious arc/funny arc such that they can overlap, if a movie tries to do it, it'll fall flat in one category.

I don't think it will be bad. I have seen the director's other works and it was pretty good.

I stopped speed-watching here and started really getting into it. Benizakura arc really showed me the potential the show had. How is the movie? And at what point should I watch the second?

It has it's low points but those are mostly due to referencing shit that non-Japs wouldn't necessarily get. Despite that the anime is definitely in my top ten just because of the range of genres/themes it can contain.

And I started watching this all because of an AMV.

I have. I think the last two arcs are the best anime episodes to date. I thought they were very well executed.

But, they didn't make me sad. I think Gintama excels when it is dramatic, and although characters are killed and exiled, I'm not rooting for the characters - I think they further the arc's narrative, whether it is dramatic or comedic.
