I really love Diavolo having a vague backstory. He's a lot more terrifying that way. His motives and reasoning are notably unclear. You cannot reason with him. If you break his anonymity he WILL erase you. It makes him almost like a passive slasher villain. He wont do anything to directly harm someone, but if they're in his way or threaten him there's no stopping him.

While we're talking about Diavolo, I also like that King Crimson never really does a punch rush like a lot of stands. Even though he has equal strength of most stands, he only ever tries to finish someone with a single powerful strike, not a flurry of punches. It makes Diavolo feel really confident, but also brutally clean.

Their dynamic was really cool, it was so weird seeing DIO actually relaxing and genuinely enjoying the company of another human being. Even moreso because Pucci didn't worship the ground he walked on and actually called him out on some of his bullshit. You can see why he valued him more than people like Vanilla Ice and Enya and so on, those guys were more loyal than Pucci but not nearly as engaging or autonomous.

I think Hot Pants is a boring shit character who exists as a mechanical heal-bot and little else.
I get her background and Johnny's backgrounds are supposed to contrast each other's but the character herself kind of just talks tough and is involved in all portions of the story even though her motivation doesn't really stand out to me at all.
and then there's that death, just the general treatment of the character makes her feel like a more throw-away female than even some earlier on female characters in Jojo. Especially when Valentine is just like 'lol check out what i stole from hot pants bro' later on. The only thing she was fucking good for, her stand!

It was so weird. Giorno at the very start seemed like a fun and likable character - he was generally polite but deceptive, joked around and did weird shit like fucking with his ear to entertain people, and showed genuine and endearing emotions at various times, like getting freaked out when Koichi chased him, being devastated at letting the lighter go out, etc.

After he joined the gang it was like he was actively trying to isolate himself from his comrades instead of getting to know them.

And then Iggy, Avdol and Kakyoin died because he learned to stop time too late.

People always go on about how the events of SDC messed Jotaro up and I agree with them, but it wasn't the journey itself that did so. Basically he was obsessed with privacy from a young age. Also his backstory isn't actually meant to explain much, it's intentionally vague and reeks of supernatural shit to make Diavolo seem more inhuman. He had a great deal of difficulty coping with the fact that another human being knew everything about him so he sewed her lips shut and kept her beneath the floorboards but alive presumably because he wasn't hardened enough yet to kill her. When the priest who helped raise him found his mother trapped and near death he freaked out and burnt the whole town down to destroy any evidence, and presumably fake his own death so he could do gangster sit in peace. Oh how terrible that the loner character who joins a gang doesn't immediately become super casual with everybody and has to constantly prove himself. How terrible that Vento Aureo is short and happens over the span of like a week. How terrible that all the moments where Giorno is shown to get along with his teammates, which are usually in the middle of fights,[ (White Album, Man In The Mirror, etc) don't count because he's not joking with them. How awful that Vento Aureo conveys character through speech and tone shifts. Why can't every character be le funny meme man ?

Diavolo's backstory described him as 'slow and timid'. Doppio is kind of timid but he doesn't come across as a retard though, so maybe Diavolo got all the retardation and anger while the shell that was left over was Doppio.

I wish Kakyoin lived, if I could go back in time and change history it wouldn't be to stop Hitler or assisinate Trump or find a cure to world hunger, it would be to convince a Jap writing a comic full of bisexual men to save Jonathon's classmate sexy sexy Kakyoin and instead kill off that French guy who took up most of the screentime in Stardust so it would be a more climactic death, also give Kakyoin more screen time and character development, I love him, I get a feeling that resembles joy I think, his ball earrings, I want to corres them.

Hell - Buccellati is a character who's extremely serious and stoic, displaying even less humor or goofy moments than Giorno, yet he's probably my favorite character in the part because he's got a compelling story and arc, and his relationships with the other characters are shown. Yeah, I don't think him or Diavolo are outright stupid (though Diavolo showed some truly idiotic moments, like leaving Trish's severed hand in the grip of the noble and kind guy who'd been protecting her, torturing and killing Sorbet and Gelato and making a bunch of enemies in the process) but you can see why people would assume that an unlucky and hopeless kid like Doppio wasn't very smart.
