Hard to say, there seems to be some sort of distortion in her personality at some point causing her to have a strange mix of love and evil. The vol 3 epilogue with the flashback and volume 4s "?" chapter both hint at a more innocent personality to her.

It's not slow though, we get a decent amount translated every weekend. It just happens to be constantly interrupted by new releases of Index and Heavy Object because Kamachi writes faster than people can read.
