What i dislike about this show is Friendship. It is somewhat realistic and authentic highschool feeling, but the problem is everyone is damn friend with each other and there is no real interpersonal drama. There ARE cliques there, and some drama with the 3rd years, and recently Mizore misundersandings autism - but no simple and most often happening and trivial things: girls for whatever reason falling out with each other, calling each other bitches and never talking again for petty reasons. Highschool where everyone is friend forever is unauthentic.

There should be Kumiko episode of Hazuki teasing Kumiko for being a fake wanna be dive probably spending 2 hours every morning doing her hair and false acting mature calm beuty - with Kumiko telling her, she doesnt care for opinion of a bumpkin that can be mistaken for a boy and both never talking to each other after that with Saphire panicly looking to make amends and getting in crossfire and failing.

All problems and drama in Hibike are to say so " of existential nature " - having to deal with problems reaching goals, ambitions, outside influences like parent situations etc.

There is very little personal drama though. Even Ribbon now is OTP shipping with Natsuki.

The only one i can imagine to be potential source of personal drama is Asuka, but she suppresses her feelings and dislikes.

well I don't really have much to say on s2. It's pretty straightforward adaptation, there hasn't been a single "original" episode so far, although some original scenes which are more like extensions of some parts.

We're on page 245/382 of the third novel so we're actually going pretty slow since theres only 4 episodes left although I think they're going to finish Nationals on episode 12 and have episode 13 be the epilogue episode which only happens in volume 4.

There's one important subplot that the anime has been kind ignored up until now which is about everyone taking placement exams and deciding where they want to go for college. It's important for the resolution of Asuka's arc anyway but if they want to they could put it all next episode and it'll work out the same way.

As for the Reina and Taki stuff, to clear things up, the key scene was never supposed to have Reina in it. Kumiko returns the key herself and Kumiko sees the picture and then Taki talks to her like he did in the car episode. In the novel the car scene never happens. Reina finding out about the picture happens by herself offscreen in the novel and even though she finds out earlier in the anime, nothing is really changing since next episode is the resolution of Mamiko's arc and most of Asuka's arc only. So I guess Kyoani just wanted Reina onscreen when she finds out.

Now if anything major did change I'd point it out but at this point its accurate to the novel, moreso than volume 1, unless you really want to nitpick tiny details like Kumiko never ate cotton candy in the novel.

Midori will never really be relevant but the scene where she figures out Reina loves Taki sensei is pretty amusing.

Reina's scenes are all Taki related in one way or another till the novel ends. There's about 3 big ones left.

Kumiko actually does MC things I guess, the Mamiko arc is strictly Kumiko related and the Asuka arc is between her and Asuka in the end.

Hazuki in the 3rd novel at this point doesnt have anymore big roles but she gets this really great story in volume 5 which involves her playing the tuba solo in a concert since everyone formed groups. She has a huge confidence issue that she resolves with Kumiko and then theres the elephant in the room scene when Hazuki asks her how she and Shuuichi are doing.
