Cross Ange is in my top 10 anime. I love all of the characters and the music was great. I really liked how the villain was basically a cringe self insert. The plot was zany and fun while maintaining a good amount of coherence. My favorite character was Chris. She is such a qt3.14. When you take all this praise into account you can see why I place Cross Ange in my top 10 anime of all time.

I liked the first half. It was nice when it was about a pampered princess getting used to military life, and when military Ange goes back to her old nation only to give a big fuck you to every hypocrite there.

That was episode 6, right? I remember I still enjoyed the next few episodes a lot. The episode where she got a cold, the festa episode where they escaped the island, the episode where they raided the empire and so on. All were really fun. If I were to pick a cutoff point for when the series really started going in a different direction, it'd be either when Salami assaulted Arzenal, or the expository episode that followed, or when Ange was separated from the rest of the Arzenal crew. I think it was around that time that the show really started moving away from the initial setting and premise.

There were a few things about the settings that just broke suspension of disbelief.

Okay, they use Norma slaves to fight dragons. That's perfectly understandable. If Russia had slaves that could shoot down planes with energy beams or whatever, they would do the same thing.

But the fact that the "mecha" they use doesn't even have a sealed cockpit breaks suspension of disbelief. First of all, there is literally zero reason to give it an open cockpit. Secondly, an open cockpit for a flying vehicle would cause massive problems for the pilot. WW1 pilots couldn't fly at high altitudes or high speed because they had no sealed cockpit and it was basically a guy with goggles and thick clothes in the pilot chair.

And the pilots in this case wear very revealing flight suits, but somehow they do not get frostbite or anything even though they are flying at high speed, at high altitudes, in an open cockpit. There is no in setting explanation for this. The author/s simply do not bother with one. It would have been fine if there was some passable attempt at explaining it away, like "there is an invincible forcefield that protects the pilot from the elements", but they don't even try.

It would also have been fine if they were shown wearing very warm clothing in combat and only wore the revealing outfits in the prison. Hell, may as well make them work as prostitutes when they aren't fighting dragons, or serve the guards sexually.

And then you have the villain, Embryo, shown to have godlike powers and the ability to force any woman to orgasm at his command. Instead of making all the females of the show submit to him by cumming until they lose the will to resist, he expends considerable effort to stage a massive (and pointless) war and ends up getting killed like a bitch.
