We will never have fun on /a/ again. This has turned into a place of general threads where the same things get posted until bump limit and then remade.

They were too scared. That was it.

They only put their toe in the water when it came to twists. They didn't fully dive in like Code Geass when the goal was for only full on entertainment.

Because CG had top tier meme men in the form of Lelouch and Suzaku and plenty of cool side characters like Jeremiah. They're fun to watch.

It's actually amazing how CG still holds up for me. I watched it for the first time 7 years ago as an anime newfag, and decided to rewatch it a few days ago, for obvious reason. Even though I now realise how stupid some parts of it are, it's just as entertatining and addicting as it was back then. Ended up marathoning the whole thing in 2 days.

But R3 can fail too, its half life 3 syndrome when expectations are just too high to meet them

Simple things as mech: R1 started with one tier mechs with some tweaked elites(Glaston knights) and specials(Suzaku/kallen)

In r2 we got copied kallen/suzaku models, knigts got Gawain copies with hadrons in palce of handsand much more custom models for China/kallen/Knight of the round/Orange with some china foddr bots and EU specific mechs from OVAs (an another set of custom mechs). In the end Sonic-tier flying Kallen/Suzaku outclassed everything in show with huge firepower able to kill whole groups.
In this case we gonna get whole armies of ultra-fast flying mechs destroying everything + "my mech is better than yours" shit. It losses whole magic of r1 and r2 with suprise attacks, outclasing oponents with ruse, decoys, traps etc

If the creators are really clever they could have the gundam stuff while still keeping strats. They'd just have to make everything on a much larger scale.

GC was awful all around, aside from the soundtrack and a handful of good setpieces in the first half of the show there are little redeeming qualities. The writing takes a complete nosedive towards the end, but it was rocky throughout and there were other questionable design decisions, like having the mechs not actually be piloted by people inside and kind of eradicating the stakes for the pilots this way.

VVV was good, but it never reached the heights of CG because its large ensemble cast laked the same quality. The villain squad with the stupid names was bland throughout, same with like half of the hero squad. The series didn't seem to care too much about anyone that wasn't Haruto, L-Elf or the two main chicks.

Never got into the other two.

A/Z started with an interesting premise, what if MC have generic grunt unite instead of special OP. but ruined itself by asspulling too much and by having one of worst second season ever done
CA was a total trainwreck, at the same level of VVV

Honestly they were all fun to watch but none was a good series, while I think season 1 of Geass is at least decent while R2 is more traditional trainwreck. Code geass also have more interesting characters than the other series that not always play out like you would expect: Lelouch plans failed way more times than you would remember in both seasons. I remember way more characters from Geass than from any of the other series, so I guess they did a better work in that regard.
Still the main reason it's so well regarded on /a/ and in the western comunity is because it's basically a very entry level mecha series with ''real robot'' that's not gundam. Also Clamp character desing really helped, since in the they were way more relevant than today

The premise behind guilty crown was silly and I failed to give a shit about anyone or thing. It had a few cool things here and there, that would work better in different anime but it failed to do anything spectacular. Watch it once and that's about it.

It was one of those brilliant trainwrecks that comes along every once in a blue moon. Dear god was it just an embarassing pile of badness.

A/Z stopped being good after the first 3 eps. Way too many convenient stupid things happening. And the MC was just an improbable autist highschool kid who was just better then everyone for no logical reason.
Second season shaped up to be worth watching and was hoping for awesome political intrigue with downplayed invincible semi retarded and invincible MC, but that never materialized and the ending was outright shit.

CA. It's just an anime version of an exploitation flick with lots of yuri fanservice. It's a trainwreck that only gets any views because of porn and mechs.


Big thing that sold CG was that it was more about drama, had a large group of mostly fleshed out yet fucked up characters and held back on the super outlandish stuff.
Why? Because once you go too far into the fantastic nothing mundane, especialy the human element has the same impact.

Guilty Crown is unironically my favorite anime though.

Inori is sex but seriously, GC is fucking awful, the series peaked in the fourth episode and it was a fucking steep and long dive afterwards.
