Parents do that with their kids and people do that with their friends all the time. Sometimes there are just things that you don't feel comfortable saying, either because that'd be way too rude or simply because you're not sure the person could handle the truth well. It's more about being considerate than being dismissive or whatever. Especially in a country like Japan when that type of behaviour is really ingrained in the country's culture.
Also, I like to believe that in Reigen's case, his recent character arc pushed to seriously reconsider the way he adresses and treats Mob.
