It's not about right or wrong, just actions have consequences. Raping a child is a heinous act even if it's 'necessary'. But arguably if Makihisa was more ruthless (not sparing and adopting the son of his enemy on a whim, killing his son when he turned, not giving Kohaku any leniency whatsoever, etc), he would have been fine. But that wasn't the case and it resulted in his death.

Makihisa is one of the most tragic figures of Tsukihime. I would even say the most tragic.

One has to understand the life he led and the position he was in. His wife died young and left him with 2 children, one of which went insane at a very young age and he was responsible for killing him, which he couldn't do.

What many forget is that Makihisa was a traitor and a usurper. He betrayed the other clans and took control, using the Nanayas.

When he started to go insane, it is easy to imagine he would have worried for the safety of his daughter.
If he hadn't used the twins to prolong his life, Akiha would have become head of the house at a much too young age, and likely would have been killed for the position.

Makihisa is a very misunderstood character not just by readers, but by the characters themselves. Akiha resents him for so many things (above all sending Shiki away) that she's blind to all the good things he did for her and the family.

Ironically Shiki, the one who was sent away. is the only one capable of understanding more about Makihisa, and so he alone grieves for him.


Definitely one of my favorite characters in Tsukihime. Which is astounding considering you only learn about him from other characters' impressions of him after his death.

I like both of them. Tsukihime is older and really shows the amateurish beginnings of TaipoMuun but it still holds up.
I think people have grown to dislike Fate due to it's overexposure and the plethora of alternate timelines and cashgrabs (that said, Extra or Apocrypha are still enjoyable in their own way). I actually kinda fear a lot of people will think the same of Tsukihime after the remake, given that it will probably breach its niche roots.

This has definitely been my experience somewhat. I haven't grown to dislike the original F/SN or anything but I really can't keep up with all the bullshit spin-offs anymore and it does sour the overall experience somewhat.

I liked intimate atmosphere of Tsukihime much more. Also better characters and mystery. Even MB 'after' feels more solid and has great cast. FSN has better world building but overall I found it less enjoyable and even after years I just can't like most of the characters. Kinda funny how I had to force over 100 hours with FSN and F/Z LNs to comprehend all lore so I can enjoy Prisma afterwardsAlso Tsukihime was my first VN, maybe that adds something to it.

How did Far side end up being the vastly superior of the two halves? Arc Route is obviously the main story and the base for the others, so it most likely had the greatest focus and attention (it's a fact that Hisui and Kohaku routes were added later on). It was the one all about the Dead Apostles, MEoDP, and general action while FS was mostly just the kids in a mansion. Fuck, Arc doesn't even appear in FS.
