Most of the cast is boring, it's Zero's greatest flaw.

Kerry: Tryhard edgelord, his conflicts and suffering come from his own stupidity/ He's the Mind of Steel end given form. One of the better ones, but overall there isn't that much to him to justify the MC role.
Tokiomi: Dumb magus #1
Kayenth: Dumb magus #2
Waver: He's fine and gets development
Ryuu: incredibly 1 dimensional psycho killer
Kayria: Selfish chuuni with delusions of grandeur/ dumb magus #3 (ironically he has more to him than most of the cast)
Kotomine: Boring for half of it, mostly just retreading his already established character. Also don't like how it retconned his being aware of his nature by the time his wife died, now it's Gilgamesh seduced him.
Daddy priest: I literally had to remind myself he exists
Every female side character: boring and useless, half-excepting Iri
Rin, Sakura, and Zouken: cameos

I don't know why people even like Kariya. The novel made it perfectly clear that the whole thing could have been avoided if he put down his pride and told Tokiomi the truth about what is happening to Sakura. But he was too salty about losing Aoi to Tokiomi to admit that Tokiomi is just better than him. Also in his hallucination before his death he was fantasizing about himself replacing Tokiomi as Sakura and Rin's father and being with Aoi after he wins. He's not as altruistic as all you people think.

Ryuu: what made him "coooruu" was his interactions with the caster. Also his philosophy about God
Kayria: Suffering made him cool
Kotomine: I like how he discover that live is also about fun and what gives his joy is twisted and evil. It was fun to watch as develops

The Tohsakas and Makiri worked together on the grail for hundreds of years, including exchanging trade secrets. He surely knew about what magic Zouken specialized in, and I believe an interview said he was fine with it if it trained Sakura well (this is where Zouken trolled the fuck out of him). Still a fault of Kariya to never think to mention that though.

You watched half of it and couldn't tell it's a textbook tragedy?
You can predict the ending from the get go if you realize that.
Kiritsugu fails and realizes his ideals were a delusion and he's nothing more than a selfish killer like most of the other masters (AKA Anagnorisis).
Same goes for Saber, she can't change her past and ends up as she started despite all her fighting.
Only character that has a "happy" ending is Kirei because he learns to embrace his destiny instead of fighting against it.
