The threat against Robin was the destruction of the Straw Hats.

This was pre-timeskip, where the most she had ever seen Luffy do was beat up Crocodile (after failing twice and her having to rescue him one of those times) and beat Enel who he had a ridiculously lucky advantage over. They only managed to survive their encounter with Aokiji because of his weird whims, and she came to the conclusion that if she stuck around, the nicest people she'd ever known would either die or turn on her like literally everyone else in her life. She had no idea they would go through the lengths they did just for her. Since then, she (and everyone else) have had absolute faith in each other.

Sanji has a hostage situation, sure, but he should REALLY know better than to doubt Luffy's ability, or at least his tenacity, after all this time.
