>"kill all the Japanese"

Watching Code Geass for the first time. Would you all say that this is the point at which Code Geass jumped the shark? I think this is one of the biggest asspulls I've ever seen
>>
>>150354325
You can't handle the edge. Go back to moe.
>>
>>150354325
Literally the best part of the entire season.
>>
>>150354325
True.
Tbh code geass is good but it's full of this kind of asspulls like that and muh edginess.
Enjoy the ride if you can.
>>
>>150354392
Oh I'm not arguing with you there. I was laughing my ass off the entire rest of the episode.
>>
>>150354325
>I think this is one of the biggest asspulls I've ever seen
Oh, it's contrived as fuck, but you haven't even started seeing true asspulls yet. S2 is like a almost Kubo-tier writing.
>>
>>150354325
How is this an asspull though? It's just absurdly over the top.

If it had a jump the shark moment, this was it.
>>
>>150354325
Lelouch was overconfident at that point and time and was also thinking of ways he could get his plan still done subconsciously.

It was a bit of a stretch but not the biggest one the series pulled overall
>>
>>150354325
You thought people like this show because it's good? It's not called a hilarious trainwreck because it has high quality writing or artwork.
>>
>>150354325

Wait for second season and the eternal chink
>>
>>150354325
>asspulls
Code Geass is filled to the brim with asspulls but that doesn't really fit the bill for this scene.
>>
I can't be bothered to talk about CG with fucking secondary newfags.

It makes me kind of sick to see you all trying so hard to fit in to be honest.
>>
>>150354325

What was her name again?
>>
>>150354325
I honestly thought it was pretty great and it made sense that Lelouch would lose control of Geass and would cost him greatly in the worst possible moments and that was easily the worst possible timing so it made sense.

What was shit about CG was the whole school dynamic that was unneeded as well as this whole angst shit with Lulu and Suzaku.
>>
>>150354325
It jumped the shark from mediocre edgy keikaku show to top tier entertainment, yes.
>>
>>150355446

The issue isn't that he lost control of the Geass it's that he lost control of it when saying to most plot contrived stupid thing possible.
>>
>>150354881
ABUNAI!
>>
>>150354325
When I first saw this I screamed for about 15 minutes. This wasn't an asspull, but God if its not the worst possible thing to happen.

He literally could have said something like "Make me some tea" or "Dance like an idiot whenever I say Kumquat" or "Suck my dick and swallow my cum" and this shit wouldn't have happened.
>>

That's Sailor Moon.

>>150356744

You underestimate the madness induced by Lelouch's tainted semen.
>>
>>150354325
It's not an asspull, that shit was forshadowed by C.C's warning with Mao, and Lulu fucking himself over in his own Hubris

>>150356744
This guy has the right idea. It's upsetting to watch, but not because it's an asspull, so much as it's all the wrong pieces falling together in all the wrong ways leading to an awful consequence that people could see but at the same time didn't want to think could happen.
>>
>>150354325
Code Geass was the Guilty Crown of its time, it's not supposed to be any good.
>>
>>150354325
>I don't know what an asspull is - the post.

I remember /a/nons theorizing about this very thing happening weeks before it did. There were threads about "what if Lelouche's geass goes out of control like Mao? How could it fuck things up?

The moment I saw this episode and I knew he was meeting her in private I think half the board was convinced he'd geass her to either attack and wound him OR to order the genocide of the 11s in the stadium. I mean the path to get to that second option was a little windy, but considering people were theorizing about his geass going out of control for weeks prior there was NOTHING about this scene that was an ASS PULL.
>>
>>150357753

I think you miss the point.

Yes, the incident a random and unlikely thing in itself. But that's the point. Lelouch has been playing with fire, and here, at long last, he is burned.

In real life, too, complex schemes are prone to be derailed by mere accidents.

>>
>>150360182

It was a deliberately absurd order to make a point. A genocide of Elevens contrasts greatly with Euphemia's character and motivations (see: Euphie resisting the order even while dying); she'd never do it, but his Geass is absolute (for the most part).

In the instances before the meeting with Euphie it was pretty clear that Lelouch was having problems with the geass. It kept activating and giving Lelouch a headache.

It even did it while in the meeting right before Euphie revealed her plans. It was in the aftermath of Lelouch accepting that he lost that it permanently switched on.

Not an asspull.

Asspull or not, I've never had a problem with Code Geass's writing because these plot turns pretty much always raise the stakes.
When asspulls bother me in other series, it's usually because it's a cop-out that solves the problem, but even though Code Geass has retarded shit happening, it uses that to fuel the crazy train.

You can keep making this thread as much as you want. No one agrees with you. Sure it wasn't the smartest plot point in the world but it wasn't an ass pull. It had a point and it kept the story going just fine. Lelouch wouldn't haven't been so damned devastated afterwards if it was just some ass pull. It proved that things can go wrong sometimes and not just follow some plan. Not to mention the rage it inspires in the viewer. It was a moment that makes the show more memorable and if you weren't cackling during the fact or angry then you shouldn't have been watching up to that point and dropped it ages ago.

>>
>>150362940
It doesn't make me mad or anything though, just confused.
>>
>>150362886
Actually I think it WAS the flying mechs, or at least they were part of it. The knightmare frames were a neat take on mecha because, while they were clearly powerful, they weren't world-breakers, and they had limitations. In R1 you always saw them working as part of coordinated land forces, filling a niche. The exceptions were the hero units like the Lancelot, the Guren, and the Gawain, but they were marked as special from the beginning.

But in R2 fucking everything can fly and Knightmares are invincible. I realize they explain this a little bit with mass production, but it's still lame. Not to mention the fucking Knights of the Round and their specialized knightmares which can all fly, even though that fucks up the technology curve that R1 established.
>>
"Jump the shark" is not synonymous with "asspull."
>>
>>150362965
Bait doesn't have to make you mad. It just has to generate (you)'s.
>>
>>150362611

Don't get me wrong I thought it was hilarious too, but if someone was watching it with any hope of a serious show, that is the exact point where those expectations would be shattered.
>>
>>150362985
>Not to mention the fucking Knights of the Round and their specialized knightmares which can all fly, even though that fucks up the technology curve that R1 established.

Gawain was the first Knightmare that could fly without the booster pack. Even when it was stolen, Britannia still had the technology. It's not a stretch that during the time skip the Knights of Round Knightmares got outfitted the same way Guren was outfitted with Lancelot's gear.
>>
>>150363132

>>
>>150354325

Something about them not being deployed in Area 11 or busy else where.

You also have to consider that Knights of Round weren't a thing in the first season.

I also have a vague recollection that some of the Knights' Knightmares weren't finished as of season 1.

>americans

>>150363298

>>
>>150363284
The Knights of the Round are meant to be this special, elite group of pilots that clearly have an established history. However, as you note, they're nowhere in sight in R1. Surely by the time of the Battle of Tokyo, at least one of them would have been deployed there to help Cornelia put down the Black Rebellion.

But, again, they were an R2 creation specifically designed to sell more toys. That's why they don't fit the world that R1 established.
>>
>>150363335
You have to consider that the timing between the massacre and Battle of Tokyo is roughly a day, not enough time to call in reinforcements from across the Pacific.

The Knights of Round were also deployed in Europe during the events of the first season since there was a war.
>>
It seems like a bit of a stretch to use the part of a sentence that could only be construed as a command on its own, without any of the rest of the thought it was a part of, as justification for it being treated as one

In episode 9, Kallen calls Lulu out on being a dick for thinking the 11's should be a bit happier with his lot. I wasn;t sure if he was doing it to throw Kallen off, or if it was his real views, but it supposed to call into question how he'd be the right person for this sort of job.

Even the most serious dramatic shows take the time to actually breathe and give the audience moments of "levity". Anime does this constantly. I'd feel sorry if someone watched any given show and just expected straight drama or straight suspense. I mean I agree sometimes depending on the story you don't need comedy but changing up the story from death, crying, and suffering keeps your audience engaged with the characters.

So what was up why lelouches retarded master plan?
Basically his big idea was to establish himself as an enemy of all humans so that they can come all to work together and hate him, and when he dies everyone will keep working together all happy and singing songs?
Is he really that naive?
The second he-the big bad wolf, is dead, everyone will go back to squabbling with each other their various reasons and the world will be exactly as it was before. Worst plan ever.
The correct thing to do would be to stay alive as an emperor, or president or whatever and use his immortality to watch over the word peace and defend it (which has the added bonus of the entire world not hating him).
He is supposed to be this super smart stragist and shit yet he fails to understand something so simple as the human nature? That ending was just stupid.. i am very glass a new season is coming out, maybe we will get a better ending that actually doesn't rely on a stupid broken plan like that.

It was one of the few series I've watched like that that had a very good ending. Of course, that might not be true in a couple of years, but to me the ending is one of the most important things in a show (It's basically the culmination of the entire build up, so a bad ending leaves a bad taste in my mouth).

I also like the ideology themes, how most of them are fighting for the exact same thing using entirely different belief systems. How Lelouch, despite hating the belief system of his father and opposing it, is basically proving it in his struggle to take it down.

I also like the big animay tiddies.

I hate a bad ending as well. I have enough bad depressive and mundane shit to deal with in my real life... so it's nice when shows i watch for fun don't add to that list

If you have a million question go and watch the show again. Its not complex in the slightest.

There's two schools of thought for those people who enjoy Code Geass. While pretty much everyone realizes that its melodramatic shlock, one group of people enjoys the series despite its flaws, the other group enjoys it for its flaws.

Honestly I found the ending that lots of people seemed to like really stupid and contrived, but I still enjoyed Geass Sundays for the absolute madness that was R2.
>>
>>150367914
Zero reading comprehension then?
I have no questions. I asked a rhetorical question "His ultimate plan is shit." Then i proceeded to explain why.
>>
>>150354325
Yeah I know if someone as flawless as you had the Geass power you'd thought

>I should never make jokes because my power might change one day and activate by itself
>>
>>150367990
He did get a headache though just moments before, so being as smart as he his he could have realized that something was wrong, specially when he knew from cc that his power will shit itself sooner or later.
>>
>>150362313
I don't really think so. I mean, the ending of R1 put a lot of doubt in peoples minds, when a lot of people thought he abandoned them to die. There was also the parts where he showed casual nonchalance at the death of his loyal members, the massacre of the Geass institute. Then the fact that he was (supposedly) a Britannian Prince who ordered the massacre of the Japanese in the Nip zone showed (to them at least) how he was just using them as a means to an end, or worse, becoming controlled opposition in order to deliver the rest of the world into the arms of the Brits.

I mean it's not like the completely broke up the core movement when they turned on him, the price was the liberation of Japan. That was the goal of those at the meeting from the start.

I don't think it was bullshit because there was a fair amount of setup.

What does that even meme?

My favorite part was where Lelouch Geassed the Planet Jupiter into killing Charles and Marianne

You can't top that. It makes Charles look like a retard for not trying that earlier.
>>
>>150368085
They turned on him way too easily though, basically the enemy showed them some evidence where a lot of it could be easily fabricated and they just ate it up too easily
>>
>>150367990
One of the problems of it was his arrogance. It never crossed his mind that this power could, indeed, go out of control for him.

Sorry, but I'm not a teen anymore to like this type of character.

This scene was fucking stupid but the series mostly picked itself back up going into the finale.

Next season another cutie dies and the rest of the series from that point on is only good for laughs.
>>
>>150368158
I assume they were waiting to see his identity.

You have to admit, if coupled with everything that made him seem like a power hungry dick, the identity of your leader was the literal prince of the enemy nation, you would feel a bit betrayed.
>>
>>150368235
The enemy played their cards well, but still in my opinion it wasn't enough for knights to turn on him like that. Even though he had made some mistakes, he made huge advances for the rebellion.
Even kallen flipped way too fast, without seeing any evidence all they said to her was "lelouch is a bad guy" and she was like "ok" sure he said to her he was in that scene but she was smart and would have realized that it was just a very basic ploy from him to safe her life which would be in peril if she protected him
To me it was simply a lapse in otherwise great writing for the show.
