But the ending of R2 was ambiguous. Many fans weren't satisfied not knowing for certain whether Lelouch was alive or not. Code Geass had a reason to come back. As much as I love the series, Gurren Lagann doesn't have any reason to come back after that ending. All the main characters are either dead or really old. I guess they could make a spin-off with an all new set of characters. But that will likely flop. You can't beat the original cast.
