You cant make this shit up
>>
>>150311115
We already knew weeks ago that it would go past 20b.
>>
>>150311115
So, it'll surpass Howl too.

At least I'm glad Shinkai will have more money to burn in pretty backgrounds for his next movie.
>>
>>150311294

This. I'm also hopeful it'll mean his movies get quicker releases in the West too.
>>
>>150311115
Keit-ai's done it now. Execs will be prowling /a/ to steal our memes and make animu out of them like no-one's buisness.

Well deserved.

How's Koe no Katachi doing again? Last I read it was at 2bn.
>>
>>150311294
>more money to burn in pretty backgrounds for his next movie
this
what i want is a sci-fi movie like Voices of a Distant Star
>>
>>150311115

and /a/ is barely interested aside from thinking they were somehow responsible for its success because of some dumb Keith Ai meme and because it isn't late night TV wank bait for degenerates. This is the shit you can't make up

Meanwhile back in reality apparently best U.K opening for a Japanese animated film ever I should mention
>>
>>150311633
I'm sure more people will be interested once it's released in NA.

I've only seen anons from the UK and Australia say they've seen it.
>>
>>150311633
>Keith Ai
>>
If it's anything like the rest of Shinkai's works (which is likely since they're all the same) it'll only be good for the visuals.
>>
>>150311729
pretty much all of shinkai's works deal with loneliness in various forms. if you can't relate to that then you're broken or a contrarian.
>>
>>150311729
yea it really wasn't that great. though on the upside shinkai doesn't blueball us for once
>>
>>150311115
wtf i hate miyazaki now
>>
>>150311879

What the fuck I don't know how to post in context or make sense cause I'm an /a/ shitposter
>>
>>150311858

Or maybe some people just don't like the incredibly heavy handed way in which Japanese media deals with drama and youth issues. Not everyone is a walking stereotype devoid of any individuality or different concerns in life much as most of /a/ unfortunately is.

Wow
Did you know /v/ doesn't talk about the latest cod game either?

>>
Do you guys think Shinkai masturbates by taking an onahole, putting it down, walking to the other side of the room and then jacking it furiously while staring at it longingly?
>>
>>150312044
/v/ talks regularly about popular games, idiot. Overwatch, Fallout and GTA for example
>>
>>150312136
Not enough melodrama.
>>
>>150312236
And /a/ talks about dragonball, attack on titan, and evangelion
Just because something is popular doesn't mean we need to talk about it
>>
>>150311633
Nobody's interested because it's literally only been screened in two cities and the only rip we have is a CN+EN hardsubbed DVD screener.
>>
>>150311953
whatever. you have a good day whatever you think.
>>
>>150312236

No /v/ just shitposts in a ceaseless effort to try to be on top of what it thinks will be the latest video game backlash scandal. Right now it's about Conan O'Brien basically. It also whines profusely about those games you mentioned because muh goddamn shitposting
>>
>>150311490
Same here. I love most of his movies but VoaDS was my favorite by far.
>>
>>150312030
>bayside shakedown
What the fuck is this? And why are there two?
I get most of the others. Although it's peculiar Last Samurai is on there since I'd assume they'd think it a bastardisation of their history.

Anyway I've seen Your Name, and I'm glad it was successful. I think part of its success can be attributed to simple good timing, and people having latched onto Shinkai as a nouveau Japanese auter, now that Miyazaki has gone fucking senile.
>>
>>150311633
I am not interested (yet) because I refuse to watch the eyecancer version.
We will have tons of threads once it gets proper rips.
>>
>>150312396

No nobody is interested here because it's not some wank bait fanservice waifu thing for degenerates that they can pretend to have extreme positions, argue stupidly and shitpost about easily. That really is all it comes down to and all that matters to /a/

What is it even about?

>>150312396
It's already out in Australia, and opening in New Zealand in two days.
>>
>>150311633
I was already interested when it was "just" Shinkai's new movie. Now I'm really interested and hyped because of it's success. I don't really care about Keit-Ai meme.

My fortunes may point to this...
>>

>they're all the same
No, there is also that Ghibli rip-off.
>>
>>150311633
Movie discussion is always more diffuse on /a/ it doesn't follow a weekly release schedule so you are either there for the thread or not. That said when the BD comes out and the subs are released there will definitely be a number of threads then. Most people likely haven't seen it yet. I only got to see it a few days ago.
>>
>>150311385
It dropped off the charts several weeks ago. The last estimate was over 2 billion yen:

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2016-11-07/a-silent-voice-film-earns-2.1-billion-yen-sells-1.6-million-tickets/.108549

I wonder if it will catch up to Girls und Panzer at the end of its run.

The same thing.
>>
>>150312828
The story was pretty much the usual Shinkai fair with a bit of a more mainstream friendly bent but the animation especially was a step up from previous ventures although not mind blowingly fantastic. That said by animation I actually mean animation not detailed art which was as detailed as usual. I kind of dislike the style of Shinkai's art anyway it seems way too saccharine.

I'm using this as a pretence to see it again this weekend. And plan on not drinking a litre of soda beforehand this time round.

>>
>>150311115
Inflation helps it also.
>>
>>150313687
I mean yeah, if it's been prepared by a complete stranger, that's kind of gross; but if it's been made by your lover, that's kind of cute in a "part of me is now inside you" bonding way.

But I suspect the real process is much grosser than it was shown in the film.
ie. I wouldn't think much of the rice would be converted to sugar by salivary enzymes (for it to subsequently ferment) unless you were chewing that wad for a while, and spitting it out intermittently to let your glands secrete more amylase.
>>
>>150312136
>Do you guys think Shinkai masturbates by taking an onahole, putting it down, walking to the other side of the room and then jacking it furiously while staring at it longingly?

Your metaphor for his style of depicting loneliness is quite amusing and surprisingly apt.
>>
>>150311115
>people actually like shinkais terrible shit
christ, soon there will be shinkaifags as pretentious as the filthy fucking yuasafags on this burning crater of a board.
god damn it.
>>
>>150311294
Does anyone else want Shinkai to simply release 60 mins of scenery with piano music?
>>
>>150314959
I don't think so. Most pretentious types dislike Shinkai or at least consider him one of the poorer popular anime film directors.

I want him to release the Z-kai movie.
>>
>>150311294
I hope Shinkai would make better films in his later career. He really has the potential but he cant do it because of time constrains. His movie The Place Promised on our Early Days was pretty good
>>
>>150315225
I don't like his art much. It may be detailed but it is all imbued with the vulgar sentimentalism that makes it ugly.
>>
>>150312914
Nah it won't make more than 2.25 billion
>>
>>150311633
Had the movie been 50-60 minutes then I would have given it a 9/10. It was (excluding the insert song parts) perfect and incredibly fun to watch. Pity that it went downhill really hard the second Taki enters the cave.
>>
>>150312601
Kuchimamizake Trip makes me tear up. The last 50 seconds of Mitsuba no Theme are also pretty damn rough. Another really good one Hajumete no Tokyo. Funny how the songs of the second half get me more even though it being nothing but forced drama with the overall story telling going downhill hard at that point.
>>
>>150316532
Pacing kind of went to shit, yeah.
I'm more mad about Shinkai baiting viewers who've seen his previous works at the end, the weird timeskip and torturously drawn out finale that offers zero closure.
>>
Why didn't Grandma believe Taki when he said the comet was going to hit if she knew that it wasn't Mitsuha? Also how did they manage to evacuate everyone with hardly any time to spare?
>>
>>150318304
Same reason her father didn't believe him: no one knows. Most people don't mind though and to be honest there have worse and more illogical scenes than that one. I mean, grandma didn't even say that she didn't believe it. Simply was said that she told him that no one else will.
>>
>>150318304
it didn't exactly sound like she didn't believe him. even if she did, she just said no one else would believe him
