What is the point of any of their hand movements?

I don't see any functional difference between the Kamehameha that requires you to do the pose and shout the name, over the generic energy wave that doesn't require a pose, aside from being blue/white instead of yellow.

Well, think about it this way.

It's a curbstomp battle.

This is the first time Trunks has stepped in a battle knowing he WILL win. Before that he either trained with Gohan and Gohan would win, or he fought the Androids and lost.

So yeah, he's going to take his time to charge up a silly attack that wouldn't be of any use in a straight forward battle between him and someone of similar or greater strength.

Rewatching that Trunks/Goten & Gotenks fight against Avocado in that one movie.

Now that people are talking about Trunks growing up, I'm kind of worried that we'll lose that typical child-Trunks fighting style.

I'd like to say that it's probably the untrained form of Demon Style.
Trunks without proper training has to do several stop-gap things that Piccolo & Gohan knew how to do in regards to gathering energy and whatever.

I think it was referenced several times during Piccolo fights he was drawing in energy from the surrounding area.

Of course the difference between training & different Martial Arts styles went right out the window and now everyone uses the same shit except Tien because he has a third eye and Piccolo because he's a green man.

I'd even accept it if Vegeta turned around and said he was following some ancient school of Saiyan Fighting, and that Whis was teaching them the fundamentals of some Divine School.

If Gohan becomes relevant again it would be a good opportunity to revisit some of Piccolo's old moves.

I don't think Gohan has to bother with the Crane style since it mostly seems to be Chen's imitation of the Evil King Piccolo anyway.

Trunks' hand movements are so fast that it's hard to tell what they are, and per Toriyama's usual, he doesn't explain it.
