No. 2: He took a very traditional action manga subject (ninja) and incorporated several aspects of ninja lore not often seen in the genre as integral aspects of his manga.

- Daoist/Onmyouji and Shinto talismanic magic
- Actual ninja taijutsu as opposed to just drawing any combat style you feel like
- Animal/Yokai summoning and Keppan (bloodoaths)

He also blended it with the modern militaristic elements which he got from growing up on a base - adding increased originality and personality.

No. 3: Kishimoto incorporated tons of direct and veiled references and parallels to Japanese mythology. I love mythologies and folklore of all kinds, so if you don't - too bad.

I'm definitely not saying Naruto is the pinnacle of manga, or even anywhere near that, but it is, without question, a solid shonen work.

That's cool anon.I think the reason I can keep this completely civil is because I have no emotional investment in any of these relationships, but I keep seeing Narusaku fans still mad to this very day, some even calling Kishi a sellout or some other nonsense.I think he did what he intended to do (even if the delivery was admittedly clumsy). To stay on topic , my favorite charcacter was Jiraiya, even though I think Gaara had the best executed character arc.

I can agree with you on her being dull, but aside from being shy she was never a doormat after her fight with Neji, plus I really like the whole Hyuuga fighting style. Granted she could have been a lot better but that's applicable to pretty much the entire cast.

Hinata's greatest trait is that she's not Sakura. Other than that she's just your typical shounen shy girl who has a crush on the MC, not even done particularly well either. Has the misfortune of being attached to a pretty terrible MC at that too.

Tsunade's probably the best girl only for the arc she got pre-timeskip where Jiraiya & Naruto are tracking her down that everyone forgets exists for some reason.
