I really want to like Digimon Appli Monster, it's meta, it's relevant and inspired by the Digital Age but there's so many things wrong with it.

CG- For the first time ever, 'digivolved' forms are in pig-disgusting CG and digivolving in 2d.
Collecting Digimon- I still have bad memories from Xros Wars and based on the 2nd episode, it looks like we're heading for a fodder army full of unused characters. What's really worrying is that Yugioh started a trend of every trump monster in CG and they've been doing it ever since. The worst case scenario is if Digimon follows Yugioh's lead.
Digivolution/Appli Gattai Sequence- Possibly the worse audio mixing for a Digivolution sequence. Two names are yelled over and over again until you end up with static radio.
Dialogue- Okay, we get it Haru is not a main character. Find some other way of saying that that would not sound out of place in modern conversations.
AR Field- I don't get why this exists solely for the purpose of battles. Don't Appmons live on the Web/inside a computer. Wouldn't it make more sense to have a fight on the internet? Or is the AR Field actually where the Appmons live?
MC- Haru becoming an actual Hero could have been done better. If he's a beta and he only knew Gatchmon for all of about 10 minutes why would he care enough to actually join the fight?

They are certainly digital monsters, but they are also AIs representing each a smartphone service, like google search, youtube and google maps.

If it's decent it's hard to tell yet, it has a slow start and it will be now introducing the 4th main character. It also might annoy you if you dislike characters repeating catchphrases half a dozen times every episode.

The good thing is that it's meta, relevant and is aware of everything digital age from level 300 no lifers on mobage and the villain literally lurking in the dark web.

The bad thing is that the equivalent of Champion Level Monsters are depicted in fucking awful CGI. It also feels eerily similar to Xros Wars with the Digimon collecting with fights occuring in a 3rd dimension (AR Field). A 3rd dimension which might I add bears a strong resemblance to the Digiquartz with it's glowing blocks of Digital Data everywhere. If Universe is trying to be Xros Wars then that's a problem because there was plenty that went wrong with Xros Wars namely that too many Digimon got collected and very little saw any screentime and character development. My only hope is that this is their 'successful' attempt to do Xros Wars right.
