Usually it is preferable to have only one animation director in a given episode to keep a consistent style so multiple ADs tends to be avoided unless pressed for time. They did a great job here though I think.

Well, checking the staff on sakugablog they mention Satoshi Shigeta. But he was more of a helper. I think the people responsible for how well the ep progresses on schedule are generally the storyboarder and episode director (besides of course the production runners, producers and series director who matter for all eps). This show has shown in many things that schedule is not a problem. And if you see who the extra ADs are, it's more like they helped fill in details of a fairly heavy episode like this, because they can. It's not like they had to call dozens of unrelated people or subcontract half the production to another studio, which are usually the things to look for in credits that tell you a production is falling apart.

My whole point was there were plenty of reasons to have other more than one animation director this episode. Mecha animation is something that web-gen type animators aren't especially known for so having just Shun Enokido doing it would be less likely. It is pretty common on shows that have mecha all the time to have separate animation directors just for those scenes including mechs.

Cocona has a recurring dream that seemed to be going towards something, but hasn't progressed to that point yet.
We now know that the boat girl is Mimi, and Cocona is Mimi's "reflection" in some way.
Next episode is the last Studio Pablo episode.
If they are ever going to finish that dream, it has to happen next episode.
My guess is that in the dream (and possibly IRL) Cocona gets "eaten" and becomes a part of pure Illusion, just like Mimi was.

That doesn’t really matter a whole lot though. In fact thinking it does matter demonstrates the entirely different assumptions people are arguing about this whole writer change thing from.

Structuring a story and coming up with the major events IS part of a writer’s job, but also the part that the director and producers have the most influence over. Trying to connect the occurrence of any of those events to a writer is a futile endeavor in most cases unless it’s someone highly prolific with a lot of sway over the story, someone whose name tends to overshadow the director’s. (Think the butcher, Okada, Yoshino)
In a show that’s so much the director’s baby as Flip Flappers you should be hesitant to do that.
The concept for Flip Flappers is very Yuniko, yes, but attributing anything to her other than the gay itself would be difficult without interviews. The whole visual storytelling thing should logically be something Oshiyama wanted to happen, for example.

Then there’s the technical parts that I think Yuniko is very good in. Dialog written by her flows very naturally and is amusingly enough a bit more implicit and concise than Oshiyama’s, although it’s of course hard to judge from only one episode. She’s no doubt a great fit for the show. I’d love to see how she’d have written ep7, but it’s pretty clear that 8 would have been way out of her comfort zone.

If she’s involved, then yes, it’s a very safe assumption that she either pushed for that or only got hired for the show due to her being a prolific yuri writer. Hint: The credits tell you which of those two is the case in Flip Flappers.

What evidence do you have of that? Most anime don’t have a single person writing all the episodes. Flip Flappers is only unusual in that it doesn’t have her return for the final episode which in this case will be written by Oshiyama anyway.
If anything you could ask why he didn’t write the first episodes instead of why Yuniko doesn’t write the last ones. He decided to leave such a crucial task to someone else he evidently put a lot of trust into.

There’s a big difference between a regular action episode and an 80s mecha parody. One has mostly normal dialog, the other needs to feel cheesy as hell in a way that mecha fans can relate to. It makes a lot of sense to give that episode to someone who has apparently worked on mecha before and who is most definitely a big fan of older works.

That doesn’t tell the whole story either. Secondary writers do not write almost 6 episodes in a row and never write the first one. She might even still clock in as the writer with the most episodes under her belt at the end, that’s not secondary by any stretch of the imagination.

I think the reason there is no series composition credit is a mix of on one hand that this show doesn’t have a lot to composite due to its episodic nature and on the other that at least so far large parts are written by the same writer anyway, so that person would naturally have more control over them without being involved in those episodes in a special position. She did do series composition for the first six episodes solely due to having written (almost) all of them.
The second half is probably going to be more Oshiyama’s thing, the flap to the first half’s flip. If he’ll like Yuniko write large parts of it himself or have other writers is left to be seen, but I think it’ll be the former.

As far as we know she was told exactly what would happen in those episodes and then to write scripts sticking to that. From her tweets all I have seen her say is that she was at the meetings where series composition was discussed through the entire writing process so she probably had some input in all of it but the last decision on everything down to a single line in her script is never with her.

This doesn't follow either from my point. I don't know where you would have gotten that from. It's the same for all of the roles in animation. The degree of freedom an animator has with the style they choose to work in is down to the animation director and in turn the director. The degree of freedom a scriptwriter has with their specific episode or lines is down to the writer in charge of composition and then the director. People like scriptwriters are ultimately just suggesting ideas and doing what they were told within certain constraints set upon them. They get to "correct" their own drawings and define the style of the overall episode. Well of course, they drew it themselves. There’s still input from higher places like the chief animation director, but large parts of what the episode animation director role entails is obsolete or already done, depending on how you look at it.

It’s the same for writing more than one episode. The cohesiveness comes "for free", or the writer takes over minor series composition duties depending on how you look at it. If you acknowledge it as a credit is up to you.

Yet the recent episode of Pokemon Sun & Moon that was solo KA'd still had multiple animation direction credits and the chief animation director. The analogy just doesn't work. I don’t actively watch Pokemon so I’m not quite sure what’s going on there, but you do have to admit that even seeing Iwane with other much less experienced animation directors is pretty weird. Maybe that’s him doing something along the lines of rough KA? Either way, it doesn’t really matter. He’s still an animation director and it doesn’t contradict what I said. Only an entire episode of rough/1st KA with the original animator not doing any animation directon would, and that would be credited as such. Probably. Anime credits can be weird.

Sorry if I'm late, you probably all discussed this already. I saw a post earlier that implied this screenshot is a picture of a planet in a dyson ball. What this is actually depicting is the inside of Bu-chan's head. The planet is his brain, like we saw in episode 1, and the stars in the sky is the inside of his shell. The whole city belongs to Pops because the city is one organism, or the physical manifestation of Bu-chan's consciousness. Then after Pacoya Nova ripped a hole in his brain, that effected the real life Bu-chan to the point where he needs repairs.
