The WW2 German Army's traditions and uniforms are directly descended from the Imperial German Army. Hitler didn't copy them out of nostalgia but rather the German military of the post WW1 years simply continued the evolution of uniform designs and traditions already established by Imperial Germany and Prussia.

These traditions didn't carry over in to the modern Bundeswehr but surprisingly enough were still present in the East German Army.

I can be ok with a retarded premise if the author uses well the possibilities offered by said premise. Like how Log Horizon tackles the questions that arise from it's "mmorpg but not really mmorpg" setting (are the npc real persons, where does the money come from, how much can you abuse the system and tons of other things) and makes plot points out of it.

On the other hand Overlord has a nearly identical premise to Log Horizon but the whole mmorpg and isekai thing is just a stupid gimmick (at least up to what happens in the manga, I haven't read the novels and don't plan to).
