I mean, from the beginning I've always understood that the show was framing Yayaka as sympathetic and I have bought it, it just leaned into it really hard this episode, and it was cute.

The refusal of the KKK goon squad to use their transformation powers kind of makes them sympathetic by default in a sense, because it's implied that the ability to transform in Pure Illusion is representative of some kind of super healthy psychological state or state of one's self-concept, which those technology users don't have access to. The difference between Yayaka and the twins seems to be that Yayaka implicitly understands the value of the approach taken by Cocona and Papika but is denying herself it, whereas the twins don't even understand why it would be valuable.

That´s where Pure Illusion happens, Cocona and Papika fight the evil long-haired giant death robot who wants to clean up the city, and in the end succeed.

The moment that happens and they return, the lady assistant drops her attitude and is completely fine with the scientiest being a messy neet. Since the scientiest is a huge nerd, you get all that gattai and those rather dorky looking megabots.

I don't mind if it is never really explained how Pure Illusion works in terms of mechanics or anything but I would like to know who is doing what and why at least in a little more detail by the end of the show. Like how collecting the shards will lead to world domination or how collecting shards will liberate Pure Illusion and what would happen if those outcomes happened, the stakes essentially.

Thinking about it, it kinda feels like this was originally planned to be an earlier episode, but they moved it back because the second half lacked this kind of crazy fun, or because it would have been too close to episode 3.

Apart from the pool beginning (Cocona and Papika are fairly close, Yayaka knows something's up), nothing is particularly in line with the ongoing storyline. And the postcredits teaser seems like it was tacked on to get back to where episode 7 ended already. Maybe it was episode 6 originally?

Nobody. Again, PI worlds aren't correlated to individual people. Pops was obviously an aspect of Bu, but their actions there still had an effect on Sayuri and Hidaka. So that PI world was basically where the umwelts of those three met.

As for episode 3, a lot of it probably came from Cocona's feelings, which is why it was able to take control of her temporarily. She was probably struggling with her homosexuality for Papika or something, saw her as a threat and that's why she attacked her. The friendly little sprites in the desert probably came from Papika. Who knows where the desert bandits came from.

PI seems to me to be a place where the dreams of many people can blend together.
