I like how she has an actual reason for her personality being how it is, it was a genuine surprise that the story delved into why Taiga was so abrasive. I love how she comes off like hand carved doll, it just makes her seem so precious.

I think that her romantic development with Ryuiji was some of the most heartwarming of such I've seen in anime. Even though I think that Ami is best girl, I still think that Taiga is the best girl for Ryuiji.

I think a big contributor of this is that for a good chunk of the show Taiga isn't interested in Ryuiji, she's gunning for Kitamura. But that gives Taiga and Ryuiji a good chunk of time to become friends first, and then things progress from there. Honestly it's a pretty neat setup that helps the series stand out from other romantic anime like it.

I was really surprised by how much I liked Ryuiji, when Toradora was airing most of my experience with romantic anime just had your run of the mill self-insert protagonists. Seeing the male lead not only have a personality of his own, but actually grow and develop over the course of the show was great.
