Why dose it never get as much love as GITS when it's so much better?
It didn't air on toonami
Brearios is fucking thick.

Bingo
>>150116561
This, but it got a ton of love way back in the day and was a major factor in manga and anime getting exposure in America. Comic artists from Adams Warren and Hughes to Rob goddamn Liefeld all took something from it, and the best artist in existence, Art Adams, had to be coerced into doing covers for it because he thought he wasn't good enough.

Because none of its adaptations are worth jack fucking shit.
burgers trying to be relevant

This is true. Fantastic manga but the movies are absolute shit.

What?
It makes me wonder why Appleseed wasn't used for the Hollywood movie instead. The cg movies weren't necessarily unsuccessful right? I mean the second one had John woo and Prada. Not to mention the plot is much more "Hollywood-friendly," and Scarlett Johansson looks more like Deunan.
Also, I can't help but feel the entire purpose behind Arise was to prepare the market for the Hollywood movie, but there's no way to prove that.

This is what i was thinking as well. We could have at least avoided the whole ethnic casting debacle because Deunan is actually white. Hell, wasn't Brearios originally a black guy as well?
Guess this is as close as we'll ever get.

Well, if you go by Ex Machina this is what Briareos looked like.
Deunan actually being white is another good point, but it just further illustrates my confusion as to why GiTS was chosen instead. They could have even gone for a politically relevant thing because in Appleseed America is the American Empire. It would be so much easier for them to do the Deus Ex Mankind-Divided style of lazy social commentary they are clearly aiming for.
This is why I think Arise was just to prepare the market, out of all the iterations of GiTS it's the most Hollywood-esque and its version of Motoko cleanly lines up with Johansson's. It would be impossible for them to even try faithfully adapting any other version of Motoko.
In the end, what >>150116561 said sums it up well enough most likely.
>>150125865
This is what he originally looked like according to the manga.
