It doesn't have as much gravitational pull that other studio ghibli have such as Princess mononoko or howls moving castle that is because it is based of the true story of japan's greatest plane designer if we look at it that way the story become quite beautiful in that it is all true.

I think it's among his best works, especially in the context that it also served a bookend, which I suppose no longer applies.

Absolute masterpiece. Best animated film of all time.
