Shirobako wasn't very popular on /a/ when it aired outside of the small but dedicated fanbase that kept its threads going. 2015 had a lot of mainstream competition that massively overshadowed it in terms of popularity and which were the natural contenders for AOTY. While Shirobako actually deserved AOTY more, most people on /a/ hadn't watched it and knew nothing about it aside from the mistaken assumption that it was a moe show and that it was over-rated by hipsters. I'm not sure I'd say I rate it highly, because it definitely wasn't a good show. It was bad, but a lot of fun. The first few episodes were a generic slog, but after that it picked up and got all sorts of dumb/crazy. Kind of like a discount Symphogear (but wackier and with bathing instead of singing). I had a blast watching it with /a/ too, because everyone seemed to be roughly on the same page. The threads didn't have any shitposters or autists who took the show seriously. The audience and the studio both knew that the show was pure schlock.

It's the most fun I've had with an anime so far this year, so I guess that makes it my tentative AOTY? I'm hoping Flip Flappers, Izetta or ping pong tanoshii might overtake it, though.

It'll probably end up being a tie between JoJo and Mob Psycho depending on how DP handles the last few episodes, but so far Mob is my personal AOTY and I'm praying for a season 2 so I can finally add a new entry to my top ten favorites of all time.

You don't know that, though. OPM took a whole year to get a S2 announcement after all. If anything, I would expect something similar to happen with Mob.
A future season was heavily teased in the last episode, disc sales are well above average, merchandise is selling, and the manga might be ending soon, which would allow for a full adaptation. To top it all off, BONES as a whole seemed to be ridiculously invested in the project: being part of the production commitee and at a high rank, the fucking president of BONES singing the opening with Tachikawa, Kameda and co. etc. etc.

It would be a waste and make little sense for them not to adapt the whole thing.
