Dog: People seemed to have kept dogs a lot even in the Edo period. By the way, before the Edo period, the cry of a dog was 'Byou'. And from the Edo period onwards it ended up being 'Wan'. I thought it was really scare, but dogs who end up stray would often cry 'byou' I guess. If you find a stray dog, try talking to it by saying 'byou'. [TN: I changed 'wan' to an english 'Woof', but you're free to change it back if you want]
