What are some movies that have stood up well over the years?
No Studio Ghibli, too obvious.
Pic related.
Anything by prime Madhouse and prime Production IG.
Pokeman. first one still has nostalgia magic
>>150070071
Yeah, I sure fucking love Highlander and GitS Innocence. Oh, and you can't forget those Eden of the East movies, what masterpieces those were.
>>150070183
Innocence never happened, I have no idea what you're referring to.
Ugh, I've done my damndest to erase that stain. I mean, how can you go from OG pt. 1 to navel gazing pseudo-philosophy?
Saw this a couple of months ago and was pretty surprised with how great it was.
>>150070327
Why does that artwork look familiar? Do you know who the artist is?
Patlabor 2
EoE has great animation direction.
>>150070437
>plebs can't even recognize obvious works by Sadamoto
>>150070183
Are you retarded? prime Madhouse/IG are from the 80's and 90's. I'm talking Perfect Blue, GiTS, Memories, Jin-Roh, Neo Tokyo. None of those movies you mentioned are from that period, why don't you go jump off a cliff, retard.
Akira
>>150070561
>Prime IG is the 80s and 90s
Unless you count assistance on EoE, the only movies they made before 2000 are GiTS, the fucking Akihabara Dennou-gumi movie, and some shit I've never heard of called Tistou Midori no Oyayubi, so I think you're the retard here.
As for Madhouse, have it your way, I guess, but now you're telling me that X, Time Stranger, and all Rintaro's other schlock are timeless gems.
>>150070745
Wasn't Jin Roh released in 1998?
>>150070942
2000.
>>150070942
What an underappreciated masterpiece. Greatest retelling of Red Riding Hood ever.
>>150070327
Came to post this.
Mononoke Hime
Perfect Blue
EoE
>>150071052
2000, 2001, and 2002 are an honorary members of the 90's
Castle of Cagliostro (miyazaki, but not ghibli)
Steamboy was 2004 but really good.
Akira of course
ninja scroll was 93 or 94.
Patlabor : THE MOVIE (I dunno..thats old as shit)
Watched this movie for the first time last year and it blew me away. It instantly became my favorite animated movie.
>>150075900
Dubs confirms he speaks the truth, lads. Seriously though, VHD: Bloodlust is amazing.
Proto-Ghibli movies from Miyazaki and Takahata or many produced at Toei from the 50s to 70s all hold up.
Lots of classics during the 80s too; Akira, Honneamise, Night on the Galactic Railroad, Patlabor and so on and so forth.
>>150072932
>Perfect Blue
It's pretty dated anon.
>>150080147
Not really. Animation and voice acting are still really good. And that's not even going into the story, which still spins people's heads even today.
The first Kenshin movie.
>>150070024
All 3 Patlabor movies.
>>150070024
GitS is a boring fucking. way too much dialogue and 2deep4me bullshit
>>150070071
Production IG use to be so good. now they take iconic franchises and make ugly as fuck CGI films out of them.
as for great movies.
Castle of Cagliostro is the greatest film I've ever seen. (it's technically not ghibli)
in fact most of the old Lupin movies hold up well including Fuma Conspiracy and even Mamo. for films that came out in the late 70's-early 80's, they can be really pretty to look at and have hreat stories.
Angels Egg
Anything Kon
Tekkonkinkreet
Classic Lupin
>>150084211
>GitS is a boring fucking. way too much dialogue and 2deep4me bullshit
Yeah, the movies do it better with less bloat.
Surprised nobody has mentioned Sword of the Stranger yet.
>>150070183
>eden of the east movies
THERE
AREN'T
ANY
>>150084306
Not very old, just under 10 years.

MUH NIGGER
>>150080147
>its dated
did you read the title of the thread? This one has aged beatifully. It blows minds of /a/nons and normalfags anyday, everyday.
There are two.
I rewatch Macross Plus atleast once a year.
The dogfight in the desert is just amazing.
End of Evangelion.
I only just watched the series + EoE for the first time earlier this year.
Looking back, the show had pretty shaky quality and some of the philosophy felt shoe-horned in, okay sure it had many flaws, at least the aesthetic and atmosphere made up for them, that movie however, that is an absolute 10/10 in animation, period.
>>150087919
Also I meant animation as in the medium.
>>150070262
>Innocence never happened, I have no idea what you're referring to.
Fuck off innocence was good. It may have been all over the place with the philosophies, but as a sum, it was good
>>150070024
The first two legend of the galactic heroes movies. They have such great atmosphere and they set up the story perfectly. The second one has many cinematic moments, like Lap confessing his love to Jessica in the airport. The whole scene has no dialogue, yet you can tell everything the characters are saying and thinking by the way they look at eachother. Simply masterful directing.
>>150087919
I liked the first part of EOE. Up to instrumentity, it was great. After that tho, I hate the movie. But on a side note, episodes 25 & 26 of NGE, are some of my favorite anime episodes ever.
Reminder to keep /a/ clean by reporting and ignoring request threads.
>>150070024
Akira
>>150081549
Rurouni Kenshin: Trust & Betrayal was the best for me.
It's a 4 part OVA but that kinda makes a film if you watch them together.
>>150084211
Why is Castle of Cagliostro so praised? Apart from an obligatory well done ghibli animation I don't see much else in it.
On the other hand I don't really enjoy Lupin franchise.
>Go to MAL
>Sort by year and rank and movies
Congratulations you now know which movies have good animation and art
>>150094615
How is that even a question? It's one of those movies where you can just point out any aspect and say, "yes, that's good." Great art and animation, great story, great music, fun characters and so on and so forth. Also it's not Ghibli.
