The whole SSJ2 was talked about for many chapters, vegeta, trunks, goku, gohan were all trying to ascend past a ssj.

That's why Black was a stupid move. He was already the strongest Kai in sheer power since he was on par with a SSJ2. He also had the work ethic to increase his power since his ENTIRE thing was he trained to be the God of Justice while a Kaioshin.

If he focused purely on training? He'd be outperforming Goku eventually and when he had fused with the other Zamasu? He'd be on Vegettos level without the weakness Black installed in him by nature.

He'd undoubtedly be weaker but Vegetto was as strong as he was in the Buu saga and Vegeta wasn't even confirmed to be SSJ2 level outside of the Babidi buff. He didn't even use it vs Kid Buu and was helpless the entire time.

Fused Zamasu being entirely Zamasu with both sides being immortal? Instant victory.

Stupidest plot point ever concieved when fucking Mr Popo gathered the Earth Dragonballs in the time it took Goku to fight Frieza and go SSJ.

Now if Goku died of a stroke? Sure.
Died of a heart ATTACK? Sure.

But canonically Goku had enough time alive with the virus that his entire cast of bros gathered.

Up until the Cell Games, Gohan barely did anything. He was pretty much just "there" while everyone else did all the dirty work. And then, all of a sudden, he's the one who will beat Cell. Nevermind the fact that Gohan had practically no presence in the arc beforehand. Nevermind the fact that Gohan and Cell had no kind of backstory or relationship between them whatsoever, which kills any satisfaction the fight might have. Nevermind that somehow Gohan becomes too scared to fight despite being so gung ho in the Namek arc. We're just supposed to accept this as the arc's logical conclusion...except it isn't logical at all.

It would've been better if either Goku or Trunks beat Perfect Cell. They both have some sort of connection with Cell, so it'd make way more sense to have either of them be the hero. Sure, Goku didn't do much in the Cell arc either, but at least he had an excuse with his heart virus. Gohan all of a sudden being the hero felt so forced.
