In the most recent episode, it is shown that her parents (read: mom) havr a very laissez-fair type of attitude towards her. While most parents are constantly worrying about their children (see: Kazuha's mom), her parents just leave her to do whatever she wants. This, evidently, is not conducive to strong family bonds, and its also important to remember that Momoka is still a kid who is not fully independent.

On the other point, Momoka is constantly being compared to her mom. The show tries to make this very obvious as most of the conversations surrounding Momoka's career end up steering towards her mom. She likely feels that she is overshadowed by her moms success, and feels as though life was handed to her on a silver plate, or at least that that's what others think of her. This is why she liked Chitose from the beginning, who is arrogant and cares little for other peoples status, and doesn't idolize her or her mother.

Also worth noting that the Sonou family probably spends almost zero quality time together. The anime industry is a very demanding one time-wise. Both instances where Momoka and her mom spoke, it was late at night and one of them had only just gotten home from work (Momoka the first time and her mom the second time).

I bet it's pretty hard for Momoka to make friends, too. She's constantly busy with work, so she probably can't hang out with friends after school/on days off, which kind of limits how close she can really get with them. At work, almost everyone is several years older than her; that's difficult enough to begin with, but since she's not old enough to drink yet, she also can't join in in most of the common coworker/colleague bonding events (especially for a Japanese workplace, alcohol is incredibly crucial).

That doesn't even get into the "nobody cares about me except in relation to my mom" thing, either. One of the very scenes in the whole show was another seiyuu trying to get Momoka to set up a meeting with her mom for her. Thinking about it, the "closest" person to Momoka is probably her manager.

It's not "my family was killed by drone strikes" or "me and everyone I know is trapped in an endless cycle of crushing poverty" or "my parent's sent me to a 'pray away the gay' torture camp" bad, but it's still kind of sad.

He's the one who decided to use Chitose/Koto/Yae for main roles literally without even listening to a voice sample, and he's the one who caused the delays in production. The delays were a result of having to redo a bunch of stuff, which had to be done because the stuff the studio was doing wasn't making it to the author in a timely manner...and sending that stuff to the author was Kuzu's job. There are at least two separate scenes where they explicitly say this: once in the first big meeting, and again when the director was asked to redo the ending.

And that's not even getting into the budget-related issues he caused.

It's especially galling for a talented performer who takes their art seriously to be reduced to gravure and softcore pornography, which derive appeal just from her body rather than from her actual talent.

So in laymen's terms, she's disappointed that she entered an industry to discover it was run by people like Kuzu or yourself, chronic under-achievers that believe themselves experts on business, art and culture because they manage to scrape by day to day while barely avoiding being fired for their incompetence. People who coast through their career while mistaking it for success, and arrogantly churn out the same design-by-committee copypaste drivel to finish their work week while blithely robbing the medium of any artistic integrity it may have ever once possessed.

Fortunately, few real-world industries are given to that cycle of degeneration for long because it's an utterly damning one. The depiction in this show is an utterly exaggerated work of fiction and should be taken as such.

My firm gets heeps of fresh grads each recruitment season just like Kazuha. They always look the same: glossy eyes, passionate about their craft, and the classic "no more Enron on my watch!" type of personality. I can't blame them either, they're force-fed all this ethical and good business practice doctrine during their college years by their professors who's job it is to excite them about their craft. Kazuha is naive for not doing her research and going in with unrealistic expectations and even more so for not correcting her expectations after the 5 years that she's been in-industry. You and her both are free to continue holding your ideal of the acting craft close to you but it's ultimately just a platitude in this consumer-centric world we live in.

Any entertainment industry that thinks "being porn" is a business model is going to crash and burn because guess what, you can get porn for free. Good, entertaining art takes skill to produce. That's why its worth money, that's why films that manage to do both gross multimillions at the box office while Cheech and Chong's design-by-committee comedy of the summer falls stillborn from the silver screen while barely breaking even. All the focus-groups and ad studies and Barthian structuralism in the world won't make good entertainment mass-producible, and everyone that tries anyways ends up out of business or culturally irrelevant in a few years.

The most common answer to the "skill" conundrum you talk about, is connections. You don't need skills if you have the right ones. A good sponsorship contract can turn around any crap, if the sponsor is paying for exposure and you're the manager they trust they're getting one. If you're the crap artist, but you sleep with the right set of managers, they will peddle and push your shit, leaving your betters in the dust. Or else, if you happen to be drawing a manga about a certain deaf girl, you may create a shitstorm and get published regardless of your crappy artstyle because muh discrimination. And so on...

Acting skill is strongly correlated with audience. I watched House of Cards because I watched Kevin Spacey's past performances and remember them as pretty good. I never said a skilled actor wouldn't be able to attract an audience. I'm pretty sure it's dumb to blame child actors for their issues when it was their parents who actually made the decisions for them. You can't expect a 9 year old to be like "no mommy, i think it would be bad for my development to get into the same industry as you."

In her defense, the "idol seiyuu" thing is fairly new. Up until a few years ago, most of the non-acting stuff you'd do was like, maybe a radio show, or record the occasional song if you were in a harem show (unless you were a musician already). You didn't have VOICE actors being chosen for their ability to get up on stage in a sexy outfit, at least not in large numbers.

It's an unfortunate side effect of the "traditional" anime business model failing and production committees being forced to find new revenue streams.
