Someday I'll rewatch Utena start to finish, it'll be nice now that the BDs are out. I'll agree OP that it's a pretty important and wonderful anime in a lot of ways, but nothing will surpass Eva in terms of series from the 90s.

I watched Utena. It's obvious why it was super important, innovative, and influential, but it was also a mess. Very similar to NGE in that regard, but obviously not as bad. There are things I loved about it, but usually it just wasn't super entertaining. Wakaba best girl though.
