They're both pre WWI settings mysteries with one of the MCs being a brat loli that knows everything. Gosick got animated first so calling Dantalian a ripoff has its points

That said, Dantalian is just better - the male MC isn't some self insert high school boy but a snarky level headed adult that faces problems head on and isn't afraid to shoot something when its a life or death situation, the loli is actually roaming around with the MC and does things besides be a dick stuck in a tower half the time, and the plot is more straightforward - magical books that grant real power exists and they gotta get neutralized before some jackass uses them for ill. Drop a solid OST on top of all that and you've got a hidden gem.

Honestly, if you hated Gosick, Dantalian no Shoka is still a decent show

Doushitemo Eto ni Hairitai is the best anime none of you have seen. Beneath its cutsey, crappily-animated exterior lies a story of debilitating codependent relationships and extreme social paranoia. This cynicism powers its humor. It is so awful-good.

One of these decades I'll get around to subbing it...

I watched this out of morbid curiosity because it was the very last place on an old 1998 poll of the year's anime that someone posted last year or early this one. It wasn't as bad as I expected, but still not good.
