You aren't just wrong, you're even technically wrong. There was no DRM, just a typical flash player and a typical HTTP MP4 file stream from NicoNico server. The site lagged like hell because they chose to localize and present all the content dynamically with Javascript instead of making two static versions. I know that because I ripped everything.
