I liked it with the first scene. I don't get how people thought this shit wasn't going to be dark. I didn't even know who Urobuchi was back then but the first scene had ominous music and Madoka standing in front of a weird construct and Kyuubey with his super creepy smile. Then it turns out it was a dream. It was pretty damn intriguing.

Some Mahou Shoujos have always added something kind of gritty and realistic to their shows. Speaking as someone who watched the show back when it was still new, bloody Kyubey and the Walpurgisnacht dream wasn't anything out of the ordinary.

People expected it to have a few dark elements, but they didn't expect it to shit on that concept and become a dark show that just so happens to have magical girls as the victims.
