I'm not a fan of this chart so much, it's missing a Smee VN and a few of the suggestions are a little iffy - like they're fine, but there are easier and better VNs you could have instead. I'm doing Core10k, with the main goal of completing the joyo kanji (I will mine whatever is still missing by the end of it).

I don't think studying individual kanji is that beneficial, but I will agree knowing their "single kanji" word when there is one makes it way more easy than the Core way sometimes does, which is basically shoving 大統領 on your face 4000 words before 領 shows up again.

My first 100 kanji were studied via pedagogic books for children, so I know the advantages of learning single-kanji words over starting with 日曜日 on day one.

That is not to say learning kanji on itself is an advantageous method - memorizing abstract concepts and plural readings might be as taxative as bruteforcing vocabulary, so you might as well go for the most immediately useful one.

I'm ten days into core 2k/6k on anki and it took me just over 3 hours to complete, still doing 20 new cards a day. What sort of time should I be expecting to complete it in another ten days/twenty days? I really want to push myself and try and continue with 20 new a day but fear I won't have enough time in the day due to having to work. What do you guys think? Will my time a day start to plateau instead of increasing or should I start doing fewer new cards a day?

My computer broke so I didn't study for a week, I still have another 400 or so reviews to catch up and I only did 8 new cards today since I was distracted by reading.

You should aim for 10 secs/card at the most. Any longer and you're not really recognizing the cards, but trying to learn them, and you should pause and try to figure out a mnemonic or something to put it into short term memory until the next day.

You can try using custom study.

Click on deck > Custom Study > Review forgotten cards

It will create a new custom study deck with the search something like:

You can just keep hitting rebuild on that maybe once or twice a day, it will always get grab the cards you hit again on within that deck in the current day.
