Alright.
The whole franchise appears slain by Bandai and I can not believe it... I just watched the series and the movies. Even the games aged well. What is wrong with other people who drowned even its TCG?

dot hack can't survive in a post sword art online world
kids don't even know what dot hack is
Well Sword Art Online is rather silly and most kids might be caught in huge stupidity... Unfortunately it might get worse.
SAO is well... Just there and even the characters can not develope. Even in Dragonball they did and they just beat the hell out of eachother
.hack went mobile mmorpg, guaranteed to die. The world building was god tier but they didn't carry over past casts, instead writing them out into bad ends cause it's more realistic.
SAO is good, it's good for the people it is targeted towards which is young adult - preteen category and trust me, it's a whole lot better than the hundreds of web novels I've read.
The sad thing about SAO is that if you followed it at the start, you realise the author can write, (Progressive Draft Chapter) but he gimped his ability / editor kept him on track to appeal to the age demographic.
They pandered to otaku trends and boy did it sell well.
But topic is .hack, and the characters carried the series along with mystery. After R2 they fucked it all up with Link, and that was that. Uncannon light hearted sequel kills things.
But is SAO that great in telling a story? It always missed a lot.
In Case of dot.hack I believe that the story itself went Way to dark at the end and the most characters which were added were to specialised and no classic stereotypes. Bear is a great example if you ask me. I guess especially //SIGN was a overload of greatness. G.U. tried to catch up with it and Haseo was like Morganna with a bad manner.
They didn't know what to do with it after R:2 and you might as well not care about anything past R:2. Maybe they might rebuild it and make something good but in the mean time, having the numerous anime, manga, novels, and PS2 games when you want to go back and enjoy something is great. As it happens I just beat Reminisce 100% and I'm downloading Redemption now.

>instead writing them out into bad ends cause it's more realistic
Who did they write into bad ends exactly? The World R:1 itself had a bad end and Aura might have made herself scarce but it seemed all of Kite and Haseo's parties end up at least resolved or happy. Or did Link do some shenanigans I wasn't aware of?

It's more to do with Alberdo and the original cast involved with the creation of R1. Although I got no idea what happened to the rest, they just never got involved with R2, and there should of been potential for R3 anyways.
I guess realism is fucked by stupidity again, huh?
Well I am playing Infection right now and hating Skeith this creepy long stick bastard.

There is always potential to make .hack//great again
>>149744655
Well it's life. Albireo was an admin for The World and The World got mixed into some pretty dark and illegal shit thanks to Harald's gambits and CC Corp's shadiness. Most of the stories end pretty happily in any case.

not after link and their failed mobile mmo, trashed a lot of class concepts as well. Log Horizon and SAO have already stolen the interest away and too many game defined fantasy genres out.

i remember there being a LOT of complaints that the anime series was just :
>lots of people standing around and talking
>very little to no action or plot scenes
>>149744812
Why not just telling the americans that these series spread ISIS around the world? This might fix it.
But to be honest it is disappointing that Bandai missed the chance to fix all the shit and to develope into something great. But on the other hand it might be necessary to createbown content like some guys who try to program [The World] but I guess their progress is stuck
>>149744888
Because it's drama and story focused and not an action anime.
>>149744888
The series is a grown up one with a focus on investigation and not a Dragonball Z with Swords'n'Shiet
>>149744888
I watched Sign earlier this year after suddenly remembering .hack existed. Almost fell into a coma out of sheer boredom.
>>149745409
If You are a person who needs unnecessary action then it might bore you. But if you love characters who developebyou can watch it.
But at the end it is like this: Every hobo wants action and simplicity which is only given if you leave out drama and real developement. SAO is boring because there are no twists and .hack is boring because of a lack of fights. At the end you pick what you like and if it is attack on titan i never get your angle anyway

>>149744931
yea notice that i mention the lack of plot too. thrillers dont work if there is no tension to make the viewers keep watching.
>>149745641
Recently there is a plot in SIGN but there Are so many involved that it is confusing on one hand. On the other the plot is not continued proper. They used Bad twesks to fix this. I guess it is netter to take everything seperate and to judge wach and every series and so on alone.
I know it sounds blasphemic and like heresy but even fromsoftwares Dark Souls acts this Way when You take na closer look.
