I think Trunks killing Zamasu was the logical conclusion to the arc, I liked how it was done and I'm happy with that.

They could have given Vegito the full half hour though, have Zamasu defeated in the first half of the next episode with The Omni King showing up in the second half

Overall it's been a good arc, would like to see some repercussions to all the time traveling. I think Trunks will probably be made a time guardian of sorts under the kaoshin as punishment. Which means Mai will have to wait for the D.

Potara getting a gigantic nerf is a good thing.

The main problem with Super so far is the utter lack of dramatic tension.

It's difficult to give a shit about Golden Freeza when Goku's new pals The God of Fucking Destruction and his lil Whoopsy Daisy Lets Just Rewind That Shall We buttbuddy are hanging out waiting to fuck shit up if anything goes pear-shaped.

But in this arc we saw how limited the powers of Beerus are (he can be easily killed if Supreme Kai dies, he can't cross or even influence time streams). That nerf to Beerus allows us to wonder what's going to happen next, because he's not reliable anymore.

So the same for Potara fusion. Now that Goku and Vegeta don't have this ridiculous trump card in their back pocket anymore the dramatic tension is back.

FWIW I don't think Trunks won because he was outright stronger than Zamasu, I think it was the kind of energy that mattered. The way Zamasu was talking about himself being a walking contradiction and a hypocrite, and how seemingly ungodly his goals were seem to show he's too much of a stupid fucking sperg to conceive of how people could possibly get along, which his why his (non) Final Solution is simply to kill everyone in existence.

Whereas Trunks has fought not only demonic Gods but humans themselves, or at least a specific human's creations. He represents not just righteousness but the willingness to try to get along with others he disagrees with and build a society.

In other words, despite the power of a god Zamasu completely misunderstood the point of existence, whilst Trunks understands it better than anyone.
