I know the story doesn't need to be stretched out, but is anyone else disappointed that this might, once again, be the shortest series? Every series has been shorter than the last, and a proper celebration of all of them should, by all means, be the longest if it's going to incorporate elements from them all. DM is and should always be the longest, but I feel that ARC-V should be longer than GX.

Obviously, this is assuming that time isn't wasted. For example, legacy characters for all but one series shouldn't be relegated to the final act. All the characters (this was probably the most interesting all-around cast at the beginning) should get development, including the veterans. For example, Yuzu should seriously have learned all the summoning methods earlier, and Ute and Joeri should have gotten equal screen-time to Hugo. There's no reason vets other than Kaito shouldn't be treated just as important, as should the original characters. Each dimension should have relatively equal importance, and all their problems should both contribute to the main plot. Furthermore, any dimension-specific problems (like the Tops/Commons conflict) should be treated with actual weight. Reiji, as the main rival, should have been given more importance than a figurehead, as awesome as he was when he actually did something.

All this could have been achieved if they actually used more than 180 episodes, but that type of thing is most likely impossible, even for people who are actually skilled writers. This is all just a pipedream.

I feel the exact opposite. The series should try shorter formats (like ~75 episodes) so they're not cramming in as many one-offs and episodes meant to just stall. Plenty of the most memorable series with great characters have managed with even less than that.

I am disappointed for wasting literal weeks of my life watching bad shows that don't even have pretty DVD animation because LOL. At the same time, I'm incredibly satisfied to be able to watch the finale of the anniversary series in real-time, to have all of this front-loaded so I never have it cutting into work-time, and so I'm one step closer to being an expert on all things related to one of my favorite comics worldwide.
Also, I think my standards have severely lowered. Duel Monsters was brain-destroyingly boring because everything was so dragged out, with terrible characterization because it started at Duelist Kingdom and included dumb filler, which made it so even shot-for-shot scenes felt like they didn't fit the character (Kaiba makes no sense without Death-T), and lots of action in Memory World, my favorite arc, is fucking boring because they copy the still images instead of making actual movement. It's the first time I've ever actively compared an adaptation to the source material because I couldn't get over how much worse it was.
GX overall feels like a much older show than DM because of the music, art, and acting. I started to like the characters, but the plotlines were fairly stupid, and in turn many characters turned out to be, as well. Asuka, Sho, O'Brien, Johann, and Manjoume are all decent, and Chronos is seriously awesome, but any other character was totally forgettable. Judai's new attitude at the end was neat, but the whole final arc didn't need to happen, outside of the character epilogues.
5D's was the first time I've ever been legitimately angry at any piece of media. Crow was my favorite, but I wish he didn't exist. I was seriously enjoying it until 64; I genuinely thought I wouldn't have much of a problem with whatever happened as long as it didn't go back on what happened before it.

I really enjoyed ZEXAL, and ARC-V doesn't offend me, but then again Kaito just showed up. Yay.

They're all bad for different reasons. Ono CAN do good shit, but it's obvious he just wants to fuck around lazily after proving he can do good shit for 50 eps.

Kamishiro hates dueling and is at odds with the main form of conflict resolution, which works if reigned in a bit, but not with how rampant he's been about duels not resolving shit logically

and Yoshida's a complete hack who repeats the same exact formula over and over while making things as homoerotic as he possibly can.

The best option would certainly be to just get a new set of main writers with a brand new director while occasionally calling in the old ones for occasional one-off work or for mentoring purposes.

None of them should be the head of anything for a YGO series. Hell, with Ono's sporadic work ethic and occasionally brilliant direction he should just make movies
