You couldn't even make episode 2 and 5, let alone 3 or 6 convincingly "mirror" Cocona "physically and emotionally". Most of them have had obvious links to physical locations in the real world so far besides episode 3 but that is about as far as it goes. It is pretty much impossible to discern any consistent logic from them currently.

It happens all the time in film, direction of shows intentionally guides you to look certain places first and not others. If you are expecting some action to happen at the end of the corridor you will naturally be ignoring the other portion of the screen and focusing on that corner. You don't read visual information right to left as a matter of course naturally just because that is how you read a book.

I don't think there's an explicit reason.
1. They broke the arbitrary rules of the curse and were punished for it. You could say it was a way of letting the audience know that they could not escape unless they broke the curse.

2. helped make the audience feel trapped and introduced a sense of surrealism and creepiness to the later scene where they are sweetly talking about how they like the rain (which just killed them).

3. It was given greater emotional impact by the scene moments beforehand where Papika received Cocona's trust. And then immediately got them killed.

4. I reckon it was a reference to a common Japanese horror trope: The lesbian double suicide on the school roof. It could also be a reference to the many VNs where an arbitrarily wrong decision randomly leads to a bad/dead end.
