Z had horrible stretched out buildup but it was still good. How Cell beat the shit out of Gohan and made him slowly suffer to wake him up. Even just one episode screaming to turn to SS3. The adaptation of the movie arcs was utter, cringeworthy horseshit.
The tournament was a really nice idea but the execution was terrible. Fucking poison? Vegeta can't lift some shitty robot? Random assassin with Guido's powers on steroids can beat the shit out of god saiyans? And let's not forget asspulling the Kaioken back.

This arc was carried entirely by Goku Black being a fucking awesome villain where everything went just right.
That's about it. Everything else was shit, Mary sue Trunks powerlevel was mindnumbingly inconsistent since the very start, the arc was dragged out for fucking eternity (remember last weeks episode? LITERALLY nothing happened, 15 minutes were spent on bystanders talking)

Did you guys even watch the episode? Trunks isn't stronger than Vegito, he was able to deal a powerful finishing blow because Zamasu had been already beaten to shit and lost his healing powers for his body, with what's left of him becoming some noncorporeal abomination

This isn't fucking damage control it's the text if the actual fucking episode

And it's set up earlier in the arc, with Black's power mutating and creating things that are fucking weird. It makes sense that it'd have some warped effect on whomever he fused with.

Not to mention Trunks has been training under Vegeta and watching him and Goku and his perseverance and determination is a recurring theme here

The spirit sword along with Vegito and Trunks' mid way power up and Zamasu literally coming apart at the seams is a way of finishing the fight so Trunks can complete his own fucking storyarc without being a complete match for Beerus. The spirit sword wasn't the strongest most powerful attack it was the final blow

And the only really dumb thing about it is that a saiyan kind of pulled a new technique out of their butt like 90 % of this fucking franchise does ALL THE TIME

While the power spike may be a bit too much, it's similar to what BoG was with Vegeta vs Beerus with the "MY BULMAAAAAAAAAAAA" scene. After getting beaten the fuck down and recovering several times (Making him more powerful due to muh saiyan blood) and then getting super pissed off about Zamasu's views on mortals (Just like he's done before in this arc and he had gotten a power boost each time), he finally got to a power level where he could do an insane amount of damage. Throw that in with that anger being bound by the hopes of the people he was protecting, and he could use their power to end the fight by calling upon them for help with a spirit bomb-like thing involving his sword.

Him beating Zamasu is like the Broly movie and how Goku beat him the first time, just with much better build up and a logical path to get there. An enemy with seemingly infinite power versus a group of people that, while extremely powerful, can't quite beat them until they bond together under one person and give him all their energy in order to beat their opponent. Of course, unlike the Broly movie, this version of buildup to finally winning makes sense between Trunks' Saiyan blood giving him power boosts each time he recovers from the damage taken, his anger giving him a massive power boost (Done multiple times this arc, and done by Vegeta against Beerus in BoG), and him using the energy of everyone around him to beat the Zamasu fusion.

My one complaint was that Trunks never learned the spirit bomb really and that's basically what this move was, but power wise it makes sense that he is insanely powerful now.

I can't understand all the hate for this episode,
we saw vegito pummel zamasu like a blacksmith hits an anvil,
we saw that sweet sweet ki blade once again,
we saw trunks finally taking his revenge on the guy who destroyed his already shattered life by channeling a genkidama in his sword.
I mean, I understand that some parts of the episode were just a plot convenience, the potara one standing on top of the others, but it had everything you could've wished for,
Vegito destroying zamasu, and trunks taking his revenge.
I'm sorry for everyone out there that hoped to see gohan
