The character designs follow the manga and it's popular in Japan.

The thing is that there isn't tension, best girl wars or stupid meme potential, that's what makes a show controversial in the west. The adaptation is closely following the manga so the fans that have already read it don't have much to discuss besides the direction and animation.

Oh, that makes sense, I agree with you. We can't compare the sharpness of traditional media with the anime, but I still feel like they could use a livelier color scheme or that the characters look a bit too "soft".

3-gatsu is not about Shogi, it's about living with depression.

If it weren't for SZS and Hidamari i think this would be my favorite SHAFT show. It's really good.

Maybe it's a problem with the source material, but I'm not really liking this show because the healing moments are too mellow and the drama/sad moments are too tryhard.
