Anyhow, an option is to try and get your followers or others to cover the cost of buying manga volumes through donations as this is all at our own expense and that is something the community should at least do.

There's no reason to use percentages because after you crop the pages they're not going to be the same size. Just figure out a height in pixels around the scale you want and make everything that exact height.

You take tif, open in PS, and save as psd, and only after you converted every file, you can begin work with them. It's not only "fine", it's "obligatory". How the hell you will re-edit something if there's some mistake or error, clean everything again?
Also, I would recommend keeping original scans until your work is done just in case. Re-downloading can be a bitch and takes some time.

Yes. Even at 100% quality you can see some artifacts from jpg quantization on textures when compared with png or tiff, and all that _alter_ cleaning and resizing. It might be hard to see without comparison, but it's still there. That's of course if you don't topaz it quite a lot.

Jesus Christ. I have only helped typeset one chapter ever and that group didn't have a redrawer so all the "editing" fell on me. Doing it all with a mouse was hell and you're telling me you used to do it with a trackpad?

It stopped for a year (they said they wanted to quit because it had so much vertical text), then picked it back up but with shitty text placement/minimal redraws. It has been stopped again for a while.

I saw an anon a few weeks ago posting translations in a thread. He said the translations for some future chapters were at tinyurl jmdtn2v

So let's say I happened to come upon some free time. Where would I get the raws? The anon from the dump thread had them, but I'd appreciate a batch download, and the ability to find more raws as they come.

We need a redrawer who can manage some pretty unfair redraws, and we would *like* them immediately. If you're looking for a great challenge to put on your scanlation resume, this would be it.

Sample of what you could be up against: this is the most ludicrously unjustifiable example of what is to come [soon-ish] in our work that I could find on a moment's notice.

I'm running extraordinarily thin on patience, friends. This is a series that has not had a redrawer for more than 3 months within the past 5 years. Please help me find some help.

At this point you guys really need to compromise; like just put the english text under it/ in a corner of the page instead of trying to redraw the kanji. Because otherwise, you'll really never finish it. I can understand wanting it to look as good as you can and that may work for series that don't that stuff as much, but for series like these that have a lot redraws, you might really need to consider a compromise.

For the page I posted (052-053), I realize that. There's no fucking way that I will ever redraw that. But the problem I find myself stuck with presently is finding where to draw the line between "difficult work" and "lazy work".

There is also the issue (albeit rarer) of pages like pic related, wherein the 'lazy option' isn't an option, but the work is difficult.

What would you have me do in any of these cases, if you would be so kind as to give particulars?

Personally, for the top panel, yes, I'd just put the english texts in smaller fonts above the moon words and only redraw the bottom panel. Basically, to me, as long as (1) the translations are good and (2) the text placement doesn't obstruct the art too much, that's enough. By the end of the day, to me, TL matters more (assuming the scans are properly cleaned etc).

Once again, I want to stress that this is less being lazy and more being efficient so I can TL more chapters and am NOT trying to be like Mangastream type of just going for speed and nuking topas blindly.

Trackpad for something like two and a half years, only switched to using a mouse because I got a new laptop where the trackpad was literally unusable. It's not too bad once you're used to it, now I've got muscle memory that lets me clean, redraw, and typeset pretty fast with a mouse and keyboard.
