I know I say this every week, but this week Flip Flappers got really fucking good.

No, not confirmed at all, but episode 4 had a different writer. I think we established in the last thread that Yuniko was never Series Composition credit. So there shouldn't be any major lack of cohesiveness or dropped threads as a result of him stopping writing. Maybe a shift in tone though, perhaps they wanted someone else to write the more plot based episodes.

Cocona is the wife, book smart but vigorously practical and slow to adapt. She doesn't like obscurity and prefer things clear and straightforward. Papika is the husband. She's not a bookworm and is simple-minded. However she's very quick to adapt and is very imaginative as well as resourceful. She takes interest in out-of-ordinary things and accept them for what they are. She's the cheerful orange while Cocona is the stern blue.
>>149643387
I think it was a hint that the KKK team are starting to feel the pressure as the Flipflaps learn to fight them.
Or the twins were just teasing Yayaka for letting her guard down.
>>149643620
It convinced me to start collecting spooky episodes for a H/a/lloween stream next year
>>149643532
My reasoning is that based on a lot of the shows these people have worked on before, they love non-sexual nudity, and they're indiscriminate about it. If a character has any emotional depth at all, at some point the camera is going to follow them into the bathroom, or there'll be some supernatural thing that happens that removes all their clothes.
The granny bath scene tipped me off.

I desperately want high quality images of this show. BDs are gonna take forever to come out.
>>149644614
I'll try to make one.
What would Papika study if she gets to go to school? Culinary or interior design?
>>149644519
In most modern media where women aren't portrayed as clueless and stupid, men are always the more adaptive and resourceful ones. There's a reason why a lot of nature adventure shows are centered on men. I don't see how this would be interpreted the other way around honestly. And their roles do not express their sexual behaviour or relationship dynamic. Just because Papika plays the male role doesn't mean she's a dominant alpha doggo while Cocona is a submissive master. Because Papika is so adapted to wildlife yet displays a sense of domestication, she's compared to a dog, not a wild wolf. Cocona is rational and wishes to have control over her environment (though she struggles to do so) and she has to keep Papika on her feet. She's the more dominant as well as grounded one in the relationship. It's only when things get out of control and too surreal that Papika becomes the lead and Cocona plays the support role.
>>149644723
Rational intellect is portrayed as a male trait far more often than adaptability.
Not that it matters, this is a stupid conversation. Both characters are female, there's no "man in the relationship"
Why are the images on Studio Pablos garelly so small? I just want to use them as walls.
>>149644723
I see it this way.
>Cocona is the husband
Book smart, practical, good grades, easy to sell her skills on the job market, will surely secure a good paying, probably boring job.
>Papika is the wife
Not a bookwormcan't read, quick to adapt, very imaginative, helps every daily life, may have some sort of side job, resourcefulness for planning the budget and doing chores, managing the household.
>>149644796
This is just a more convoluted interpretation of the Cockona vs Puppycock thing. And while what you say might be true, women are also much, much less likely to be portrayed as competent adapters. Even if we disregard all of this, it comes down to the basic thing: the wild, rough one tends to be male and the timid, grounded one tends to be female. They're both girls of course but this is just a more in-depth analysis of the relationship dynamic in the context of media tropes and archetypes.
>>149644904
I can certainly see your point. I also factor in the fact that Cocona despite being intellectual smarter is more often to be the one stuck in trouble and requires Papika's help though. Their dynamic kind of reminds me a bit of Haruki/Isuke from Akuma no Riddle but much less lewd and more subtle.
>>149644904

The juxtaposition from Papika's normal behavior made her and Cocona's interactions in deep PI all the more startling. She might be overbearing in the real world but she has good intentions. The show has been actively cockteasing us about her too, she's shown in 3 or 4 of the 5 previous eps, so it was about damn time we got to learn more.
In my opinion the best anime episodes are almost always the ones that tell a self contained story and tell it very well, the relevence to the overarching plot doesn't matter.

Humans have a special part of their brain dedicated to face recognition. When a face is moving fast, in the blur, it will look like three darker blobs on a light background, where the eyes, mouth, and the shadow the nose casts would be.
That particular shape is something your subconscious draws your attention to in order to examine the features more closely, so you can recognize who they are and read their facial expression.
But in a face like that, those important details are just missing. Skooky.
>>149649552
It's cute girls going on cute adventures with a flavor of magical girl.
About the Senpai change in heart:
When they return to Flip Flap HQ they say
>Tomorrow let's ask Senpai about it
So a whole day has passed since they last saw her.
I don't think it's far-fetched to say that Iroha actually went to see Oba-san after they meddled with her memories. We have no proofs she's dead right now so they might only have given her the courage to actually visit and talk to her.
Even more, why not say she talked to Oba-san the same time Papika and Cocona talked to her inside the DPI? It would make the whole deal even more impactful.
Welp, that explains everything.
The very talented Death Parade/Mob Psycho 100 director Yuzuru Tachikawa did the storyboard for episode 6.
What a great guy.
>>149649955
I like the "Deep PI" expression that /a/ coined for a PI inside a PI in ep 6.
>>149649589
Wait what?
>>149649955
Meddling with her memories sounds more likely than causing her to get out of bed and go down to the hospital to say hi to someone she hasn't seen since she was a child.
The tagging in and out between CCN and PPK made it look like Senpai was suffering from a bit of schizophrenia as a coping mechanism to deal with her family. It's possible she buried her memories of Auntie away because they were painful, and their trip to PI reminded her that she did in fact say helloor good byeto Auntie at least one last time.

>>149650136
I don't think it's about schizophrenia, but rather her compartimentilizing her life. Like, "this is the insufferable torture I must go through" and "this is when I actually live". It's way less farfetched. Schizophrenia isn't a simple "coping mechanism" to be caused by some abusive parents.
Also, its more powerful for them to be able to remove traumas than it is to meddle with memories. What I mean is: the aunt was obviously somebody she still thought about till present time. So they go into PI, remove the negative sensation/compartimentalizing coping mechanism so that she is able to deal with the fact that yes, the person she most loved isn't well, but she has to deal with it and fulfill her promise.
It also makes more sense because if Cocona and Papika are fighting fo PI's freedom, it would be highly invasive for them to meddle with somebody's memory. It's way for respectful to help the person cope with bad memories in a healthy way. Meddling with memories or actively warping somebody's thoughts sounds more like something the KKK would do.

This episode especially, it was this weird mix of sad but innocent. It makes me feel like I'm little again.
>>149650136
>It's possible she buried her memories of Auntie away because they were painful, and their trip to PI reminded her that she did in fact say helloor good byeto Auntie at least one last time.
I think this is the best explanation until now.
They were just browsing through her memories, so it would seen strange for them to actually create new content. I think they just brought these memories back to Iroha's attention and it made her really think about it.
>>149650447
Isn't that glove too big for her hand? How does she control it?
>>149650737
Maybe her left hand is just way bigger.

She seems to have a prosthetic arm so she swaps in the combat model when they go to killsteal.

Damn, these henshins are good.
How come Cocona can transform without an external shiny rock?
>>149650814
I thought that was Yayaka, but yeah, I am aware of the loli's arm.
>>149650829
There was never a rule that it had to be external, so.

I wonder how long you need to poke a rock to achieve DPI movement

Yayaka has a different uniform than the wondertwins. I don't know how people keep confusing them.
>>149650700
Why would she bury away the memory of keeping her promise and only remember that she hadn't fulfilled it?
Before they went to PI, Iroha told them "I don't have the right to" in explanation of why she doesn't use nail polish on her nails. She must have remembered her unfulfilled promise so either saw granny after getting over her guilt (thanks to Cocona and Papika) or her memories/past were legitimately altered (also thanks to the girls).
>>149650950
Bridge in the painting.
Holy fuck I was not prepared
>>149650894
I think I just get it. Notice how Papika skates around the next scene while Cocona just floats in a disoriented fashion.
It must be because Papika's transformation was of her own volition, while Cocona just transformed accidentally.
>>149650897
12 episodes.
Has anybody stopped to think on why would the deep PI be dangerous? They seemed to be able to easily get in and out of it. Twice. Maybe we'll discover they have an unique ability of succesfully surviving these experiences? aka being able to go through somebody's memories and not getting lost in it.
>>149650950
>>149650993
That must be it. Also, aren't those sodium-vapor lamps?

It only takes half an Amorphousto create a Pure Illusion.
what so Pure Illusion is literally just a manifestation of people's psyche and subconsciousness?
so they're literally taking people's hopes and dreams where it's at its most potent (ie hurr durr high school)?
>>149651040
>They seemed to be able to easily get in and out of it.
Neither of the times they got out seemed intentional.
>>149651057
and here she is painting it while looking out over the city/town from the school roof in the first episode.
Neat that it all fits together. Small details.
>>149651040
They can transform and "Papikana" is half of the something drive. They are already special.
Yayaka crew would probably get lost forever in there.

Iro > Cocona > Papika > Yayaka > Yuyu

Papika > Iro > Cocona > Yayaka > Yuyu

I would buy the BD box if it had full-size posters of the paintings.
>>149651077
>Pure Illusion is literally just a manifestation of people's psyche and subconsciousness?
This episode in particular suggested this idea but there isn't much evidence to conclude that it is always the case.
>>149650950
She can see into PI.
>>149651040
I don't they really had control over when they leave. In fact, I don't think they had control over much of anything. They were props in a phenomenological theater and didn't even retain enough conscious will to recognize that they weren't the actor.
It's one thing if the DPI is just a fragment of traumatic memory like this one, but what if that portal had led to the endlessly recursive trauma of a schizophrenic off their meds and those two had spent eternity trapped within a figment of psychosis.
literally another ripoff
>>149651040
Yayaka seemed to know what it was after they scanned it and found it didn't lead to PI. The KKK probably thinks it's dangerous since they rely on their weapons which they would presumably lose when phantoming someones memories. The KKK trio also aren't deeply connected like Cocona and Papika are and probably understand that the others would fuck them over in a heartbeat to save themselves.
>>149651134
Of course, but why does she have it?
And wasn't Papika's supposed to be on her ankle?
>>149651113
>Yayaka crew would probably get lost forever in there.
I guess you could say that's the difference between them. Yayaka crew seems to be more especialized in fighting and is always distanced from PI, while Cocona and Papika always merge into the PI. In a way, one shows dominance, while the other understanding.
>>149651040
Yayaka was warning Cocona in the last episode not to get swept up in the PI they're in, because each world is exerting some sort of influence on visitors. She and the twins see the PI worlds as dangerous because they never want to get involved except to steal fragments.
I think what we're seeing is that Cocona and Papika are getting better at assimilating with whatever forces control the PI, and embracing the changes rather than shunning them.
Not sure if that answers the question, but I think that's one of the themes the show is trying to push
>>149651143
in one of the episodes they were literally trapped in school repeating the same boring shit into oblivion
It can be easily interpreted as some random student's impression of school and how that person constantly feels like they've been repeating the same day ad infinitum.
>>149651153
>They were on the city before entering the PI
>The painting is the city as seen from Iro's eyes
>The first PI was the city as seen from Cocona's(?) eyes
>The second PI was the vacuum cleaner as seen from Uexskull's eyes
>The spooky PI was the school as seen from ?'s eyes
Who's the madman who sees the city as the wasteland of episode 3, though?
>>149651121
Where does Toto fit.
>>149651134
At least one anon besides myself thinks she's had it, and the accompanying scar, for a long while. That's why she takes so much care to dress in a way to hide it, and became very uncomfortable when Papika touched near there. Moreso than you would expect for a stranger touching your thigh.
>>149651239
In one of the episodes they were literally on a different planet with a spiky moon. It's more like PI is a manifestation of imagination in general. Imagination can have strong ties to real emotions and memories but it can also be completely unrelated.
>>149651153
I did notice that looks kind of like Cocona or Papika during their transformation scenes dont you think?
>>149650517
I take the tack that they didn't alter her memories-- she knows whether she ever managed to properly say good-bye or not-- but them doing it in her stead helped her cope. Maybe refocused her happy memories of Obasan rather than the single bad thing.
>>149651344
>implying imagination isn't just a product of one's own psyche and subconsciousness
>>149642156
kek
>>149651356
It really is pretty cool that they actually bothered to put those small details in though. That Iroha's painting actually corresponds to something real in their town which she could be seen painting earlier in the show.
>>149651272
>The spooky PI was the school as seen from ?'s eyes
Maybe it's Yayaka. We know now she isn't so similar to humans. So she probably sees humans as repetitive, constantly doing useless actions and as somewhat spooky (because she doesn't fully understand their idea of what life if). So she feels her school life is like a repetitive spooky theater.
Also, notice how the doll is always looking at Cocona - which would be remnant of Yayaka. It would also maybe explain why she let her guard down during the fight against Cocona and Papika (her "heart" wouldn't be so steel cold anymore after they dealt with her PI, specially towards Cocona).
Also, Yayaka's always at the nursery, and they start to bleed when they get out of the school and faint, after that they wake up in a nursery-like room. Maybe Yayaka has some sort of physical weakness in the real world, which would also explain why she thinks it's so grim (if the PI is hers).
>>149651395
Sure but multiple individuals can have an overlap of imagination/psyche so unless the relationship is made obvious like in episode 6, it's doubtful that where/who the PI came from is worth focusing on.
>>149645313

Cocona and Papika are supposed to be equals, I don't think they're going to do anything like that. Wouldn't mind a double inazuma kick though.
I worry that power-ups like that generally come before a fall, so I hope they don't go that route.
>>149652717
I don't really see there being any power ups I was just joking based on previous speculation that Papika might be a robot or someone of the characters are "built" or "created" or "made" to be a specific way by the factions.

It really does stink of Ikuhara, though.

Ishidate makes the best comedy anime around right now I think, even if all they essentially do is get the VAs to talk about loosely random shit in funny ways and then put bad 3D animation over it. Tesagure was great too. Naria girls wasn't as good but it had its moment. Straight Title Robot Anime was decent. Minarai Diva was weird as fuck, tried to make actual live TV anime.

This is why creators should make characters they themselves genuinely like (barring self-inserts). Don't just treat them as tools to move the plot along, or as punching bags for the heroes (unless being constantly put upon is part of their charm).
So many creators just write characters who exist to do certain things. Afterwards, it's just like why are they even there.

I wonder if Papika fucked Cocona in that metal tub. Seeing the puppy's rugged back must have turned the coconuts on immensely, The tub is also pretty cramped so it is inevitable that their skin will come into contact and brush on each other. Cocona is introverted and rather shut-in so her skin must be very soft. Papika is feral and rugged so her skin must be a bit rougher and her body muscle will be more defined. It's only a matter of time before they turn around and face each other so that Cocona can feel Papika's erected puppydong brushing against her soft thigh. Cramped, intense sex will occur promptly, which is why the tub eventually leaks.

dumb frogposter
>>149658589
No one would care because the show is a flip flop.
>>149658621
Doesn't look like it's flip flopping as much anymore.
>>149658621
You'd score a 0

This episode made me want to be a foster parent.

Wet coconut.
>>149659198
This wasn't here yesterday.
>Hibikekfags circlejerk about their shitty second season that's clearly inferior and cheap compared to the great first season
>Calling Flip Flappers mediocre and basic that tries to be deep with convoluted symbolism
>When their show is plagued with cancerous student-teacher subplot, exaggerated band drama, and cheap yuribait that will eventually go nowhere.
>>149643445
I think people are confused about shows have different people write different episodes
>>149659337
Like half of Hibike threads is complaining about how lame the drama is in the second season, what are you on
>>149647861
>>149659198
As neat as the magical girl stuff is, I would have liked a "normal" Papika with the hoverboard. Or both of them like the last shot in the OP.
>>149659198
Wow fuck my wallet these coming months.
>>149659371
I'm talking more about non-4chan casualfags and reviewers
>>149659337
>hibike S2 is bad
>this is what kyoani haters LITERALLY delude themselves into believing
>>149659582
It feels rather rushed and put the focus on less interesting stuff. Reina is terrible this season as almost anything that comes out of her mouth is about muh Taki. Last episode had a cheap attempt to throw in some random Kumiko/Shuichi het. The first 8-9 episodes of season 1 were its best to be honest. This season is a mess.
>>149659582
>hibike S2 is bad
More like it's less good than S1. It's still in my top 3 for the season, but it hasn't really shown it's on the same level as S1.
Why do fanarts keep playing this recently? I don't get a clue in the show.
>>149659198
So how much can this cost?
Thinking about it now, a change of writer for the second half of the season isn't so bad. I liked the fantastical adventures we've had so far, but what the show is missing anyway so far is a technical footing for all the things that are happening. Maybe the style of the new writer will enable the show to provide us with more concrete explanations of PI, each characters' motivations, etc. I think a lot of people despite their love for the show right now will be disappointed if most of the questions are not answered by the end. God forbid if there's a cliffhanger, especially.
>>149659755
I bet it's a fresh japanese meme
>>149659755
pocky day
>>149659782
But we don't need concrete explanations of PI. It's better without them. I don't understand why people always need everything explained, the magic is in not knowing.
I don't understand how or why they were able to go into someone else's memory
No it's not /u/ shitter. Lurk 2 years before posting.
You probably love Madoka and KLK too.
>>149659759
If it's a Medicos premium figurine (which seems likely), expect around $300.
Hey Flip Flappers! Just started this series and I already Love Live it after just episode one! I'm glad to be a part of the group now and look forward to working with you all in the future. Papika and Kokona are seriously cute names by the way. Congratulations!
>>149650967
Yeah, I guess they changed her past or memories of her past?
The whole thing where they girls would switch with each other seemed kind of foreshadowy to me
>>149660083
Each PI is based on a person's perception of the world. This particular PI was formed from Iro's subconscious, as we can see from how the environment resembles her painting. The memory scenes take place in a deeper section of the PI that holds her repressed memories.
I fucking suck at making webms and this serves the same purpose so here you go: https://my.mixtape.moe/emfluk.mp4It's been slow going, gomenasai
>>149657561
Scans never? I want to flap to Cocona's butt.
>>149660317
ends too soon
>>149660339
Because I'm not done yet.
>>149660317
Absolutely amazing. When will the full track be done?
>>149660287
This reads like it came fresh off MAL or something. Good work.
Judging by how this show operates, anyone else consider that Iro just simply changed her mind about wearing nail polish at the end? Like Cocona and Papika had nothing to do with it?
After mentioning that she had no right to wear nail polish, Iro might've given it a second thought afterward. I doubt we'll return to this plot point at a later episode anyway so it's likely we may not get a good answer.
>>149660317
Fucking amazing.
An aunt of mine had alzheimers. I fucking cried. No way to stop it.
>>149660361
I've got the next two days off, so hopefully by the next preview if I figure out how I want to do the FLIP FLAP FLIP FLAP part. I still don't know exactly how I want it to sound while maintaining the original feel. I really don't want it to be great for the first half and then turn to shit at the best part of the song.
>>149660393
>camera focuses on obvious plot point
>maybe it was just coincidence??????
You're fucking stupid
>>149660278
At first I was sad but then I remembered I have a job now, feels good man
>>149660393
they somehow traveled backwards in time to change her actions so that she kept her promise to her aunt
>>149660560
Nah, they just helped her work through her trauma. Time travel doesn't fit the themes.
>>149649371
>pure illusions are dreams/memories of other people
why are gossiping japanese ladies always the worst characters?
Cockona and Papika are sisters and this asshole is their Gendo-esque father. Calling it now.
>>149660522
The plot point could've just as easily been Iro privately reconciling her feelings separate from the events in the PI. Not a coincidence, but they can be symbolically linked rather than one being the cause for the other. Do you really think this is the type of show where later they'll scientifically explain that they either time traveled or played Inception inside Iro's mind?
>>149660708
No, they won't scientifically explain it.
That doesn't mean that they didn't do it.
>>149660708
I think the deeper level of PI will show up again, yes.
But even if it didn't, having the two events occur separately is so pointless, I don't know why you'd interpret the story that way. It's just stupid.
Papika is obviously an artificial human or a being from another world.
That explains her
> lol I am so authistic and child like XD
>>149660733
>>149660752
If it's not scientifically explained later then the writers left it up to interpretation, so a thematic explanation is just as plausible.
For the record though I think having the two events just be thematically linked is weak, so I also prefer that they did affect Iro's mind through the PI. It's still difficult six episodes in to tell what the show wants to accomplish so I'm only fearing the worst.
>>149656009
>I'd like to pick it up since I've heard many people praise it.
Not even top 3.
>>149660993
kek is this on know your meme yet?
It's normal to feel feelings while watching this episode, right?
>>149660706
So he fucked a dog?
Peenon me, Cocona!
>>149660317
That's great mang
>>149659475
>Or both of them like the last shot in the OP
Yes please.
It can join my madohomu fig.
Could the nail polish Papika used have created some sort of link between Pure Illusion and Iro?
>>149661483
Papika used oil paint, not nail polish. It's possible, but so far nothing seemed to suggest that anything physical determined what kind of PI they'd land in that it had all to do with their mental conditions.
>>149661483
Oil paint isn't nail polish. I doubt her washing her hands off has much to do with the connection. Sayuri probably washed her hands off to keep Cocona and Papika matching.
>>149661126
You're a faggot if youcried little bitch tears
>>149661534
I cried bitch tears because my great grandmother had dementia and forgot about my uncle. I'm amazed she still remembered who I was. She'd ask if I was still working whenever my grandma would call.
>>149661483
Is it wrong that I enjoyed the sound of her struggling during this scene?
>>149661126
M-Maybe?
>>149660317
How do I know when you finish it?
>>149661627
I assume he'll post it here.

I'll finish it just for you.

that's pretty good.
>>149661821
But what if I miss it? Do you have a bandcamp or something?
Why do some people here delete their own posts?
>>149662146
Sometimes you mess up, reply to the wrong post or write something stupid and don't want to look like a baka.
>>149662061
Youtube and soundcloud, but I'll shill those when I'm actually done.
>>149661583
you just have great taste
>>149662206
It's a deal then!
>>149662243
Wait, I'm fucking dumb. If you miss the post when I'm done, you'll miss when I shill them.just the soundcloud for now: https://soundcloud.com/im_a_track_man
>>149662146
Sometimes it might not be obvious why they were deleted, if you are off shitposting in another thread while posting fine here then there may be a whole bunch of posts from one guy deleted even though he was doing seemingly nothing wrong.
>>149654142
>how was auntie Cocona's art friend
I saw this as Cocona influencing PI, i.e.
>The mind of the subject will desperately struggle to create memories where none exist.
>>149662263
Dank
>>149657561
I want to read it.
>>149662263
it's not like everything else isn't linked from there or anything

I don't know, I felt nothing.

oops.

Robots are not allowed to post here.
>>149661526
She washed Papika's hands because hte paint wasn't dry yet and would be hell to get off after it did.
>>149663571
I like that this gives credence to the idea that Sayuri dressed Papika when she went to school.
