Not compared to those sports, no. Soccer is like it's okay to play around like you're gay but being out is a no go. Basketball is very macho and no homo all over the place. NBA players have came out and said they would never play with an out player.

During the Winter Olympics, I read a great article by an retired pro ice skater where she talked about how no ice skater is out because the fan base is conservative and the main ice skating tour is owned by Smuckers, which is a very conservative company. They are known for not hiring any gay skaters for their shows.
That being said, the ice skaters themselves are pretty accepting and no one really cares about anyone's sexuality. From this show, you can see that skaters from all over the world train in different countries and befriend each other.

I don't want to get my hopes up for a homo end, but the show has been paced so well for them to end up together that I actually am beginning to think that they will get together in the end. I don't know whether or not it will be explicit with a kiss or a hug, but I think at the least it will be soundly implied by a gaze or a hug unless it's a hug for Victor who is going back to Russia.
