Yorkshin is fucking great, Kurapika as the MC for a while really added to the series. Genei Ryodan is a great group and the fights and plot is very capitvating

Greed Island is meh. It wasn't as bad as people say but it wasn't great. It was mostly a training arc, but the Razor episodes were fantastic

Chimera Ants starts off as fucking shit, easily the worst part of the whole anime. It only gets good when Komugi appears and gets great when the invasion happened. It wasn't the masterpiece I was expecting

The Chairman arc is pretty boring, but Gotoh and Leorio made up for it

And the rest that is manga-only is a snore fest, except for the Chrollo vs Hisoka fight, but it was rushed and felt like bullshit because of Hisoka's survival

I was actually surprised by how great Greed Island was. Constant, contextless fighting is boring, and where most battle shonen goes wrong. Hunter x Hunter was able to capture that magic and exploration and adventure aspect that early Dragon Ball possessed. Also, Genthru was scary as fuck as a villain. I was not expecting Greed Island to be so dark, or for almost every character except for the main ones to be killed off before the end of the arc.

I'd say they are on par, but it is more of a personal taste.

See, the FMA world is extremely tight. Nearly every quirky thing that exists in it is tied to the main plot, and nearly every single thing wrong in the world is tied to the main villain somehow, Almost every likeable character's objectives aligns just fine with the heroes' by the end of the story and the supporting cast has the perfect goals to guarantee that the transition into the Good Ending goes smoothly.

I mean, FMA doesn't actually feel contribed when reading it so it isn't bad worldbuilding, but I personally like how in HxH even supporting characters like Melody feel like they have a whole story of their own that is worth telling outside of the meeting with the MCs.

Brotherhood's characters are not deep. The best they really offer, and the cream de la creme here is represented by Wrath and Kimblee, is that they have style, which is why the two of them are only on the level of Genthru who, like Kimblee, was motivated purely by a desire to blow things up and whose primary value existed in being intimidating while doing so. There's zero conflict in offing the homunculi because there's nothing human under there.
